Subject: Poser's Morphing tool sucks!

EClark1894 ( ) posted Fri, 08 March 2013 at 10:04 AM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 3:25 PM

...Or I do. I can't use that thing to save my life. Whenever i try to use it to fix a pokethru issue, the brush switches from the mesh I'm working on to the one underneath. Anyway to stop that?

Wish I knew. It happens to me too.  It's very touchy.

Have a creative day!

Lock the figure.

Every Poser tool is disappointing, but only to the point where it just falls short of you quitting the software altogether.

Yea, that should do it.  I asked this question previously here in the forums a while back.

Hold down the shift key.  And I believe Snarly created a script to isolate those parts.

shedofjoy ( ) posted Fri, 08 March 2013 at 10:55 AM

yes, snarly created a scipt for that, its very good, its called "focuser" i think. type it into the forum search.

Getting old and still making "art" without soiling myself, now that's success.

Well, that wasn't it. I'll try the shift key thing.

What hborre and shedofjoy are referring to is keep focus. it's an addon rather than a script. you can get it here http://snarlygribbly.org/3d/forum/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=140&sid=bb5e40fe22066014dead380022d75363 But you need the latest sr to run it.

Hold down the shift key when brushing over the clothing.

99% of the time it is better to push the underlying figure in, then to pull the clothes out

Hold the shift key down to keep that selection selected.  Shift prevents it from selecting anything else.

WE LOVE SHIFT!

Shift happens.

We had a video session on addressing this very thing.  It is toward the end.

Okay, Holding down the shift key does seem to work okay. But it also takes a light touch or else you morph it too much.

You can adjust the amount of effect the tool has with the magnitude option. Most things seem to want a very small number.

Most, if not all, of Poser's interface-dragging tools seem to handle rather awkwardly.   The Morph Brush can be very useful and powerful, but I've found that it takes some practice, possibly a great deal, before it is fully useful.  And that shift key thing is very important.  If you're not careful, you can create Custom_Morph linkages to your figure in the Ground plane, or any prop or figure in the scene.  I guess that capability could be potentially useful somehow, but generally it seems to be quite a hassle.  Rather than the shift key, I think there should be a checkbox to lock the brush somehow to the current actor or current figure, or something.

Cage can be an opinionated jerk who posts without thinking.  He apologizes for this.  He's honestly not trying to be a turkeyhead.

Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below.  His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.

I agree, it sucks.  I've read or watched various tutorials about using it.  I'd say 99% of the time there is an easier solution to whatever problem I'm having.  But I also think the set up room sucks and the material zone editor.

Sometimes I have trouble understanding why they call this 'pro'.   I do like the material room.
