Subject: Silo: mirror object

VolcanicMink ( ) posted Sat, 09 March 2013 at 6:01 PM · edited Thu, 25 July 2024 at 3:18 AM

I would like to mirror-duplicate a boot created in Silo 2.4.

Every combination I've tried creates the mirrored image, but is recognized as one item with the original (or the original's duplicate). Even if I delete the duplicate, the new one is deleted also.

I'm also working in Poser 8, but I've had better luck mirroring in Silo.

Any suggestions?

Hello VolcanicMink,

You do it in yhe right way.

When you have done your copy, effectively, both shoes ares combined in a single objet.

(save your project first)

For example, if the original one was the right shoe, just select all the polygons of your "new" left shoe, select Edit/copy (you copy all the polys), select Edit/delete (remove all the polys of you left shoe) and finally Edit/Paste (you create a new object).

You will see a new group in the scene editor: click on it and rename.

Now, you should have two separate shoes.

Save the two object.

Hope it helps

Thank you! I think I had mirror toggle on when I tried to delete it before.

New problem: there are several fragments of the unwanted boot left that I cannot select to delete.

For most of the leftovers, spinning the camera in different angles solved the problem. If I select the desired boot, it recognizes these fragments also, but I cannot select them by themselves to get rid of them.  Any ideas?

Hello,

In my opinion, the simpliest way is to select your initial object (right shoe), save it as obj, clear the scene, load again it and do a mirror copy.

If it's not possible, another way: You should have now one object (mirrored shoes) in your scene. In the scene tab, just lock and hide your object. All the unwanted polys should now appears as standalone polys (as they were from a different copy).

Go in poly mode, select all and delete. Unhide and  unlock your object, it should be OK.

Last solution: Select by material and delete manualy your polys (but i prefer the first solution...i'm a lazy boy :-))

Hope it helps,
