Subject: poser 9 v. poser pro 2012??

DarkElegance ( ) posted Wed, 27 March 2013 at 7:57 AM · edited Sun, 19 January 2025 at 12:35 AM

ok I am getting (finally) poser 9 while they have it on sale(thankfully they extended it)FINALLY I will be free of p6

My new system is a 64bit.

My partner is saying that a 32 bit prog will have issues accessing all the ram on my system. That really I should bite the proverbial bullet and spend the money on pp2012.

if I run p9 on a 64 bit system will it actually cause issues? will it run as well as pp2012?(mind you I know it doesnt have all the bells and whistles pp2012 has but to be frank I wouldnt need all that pp2012 has)

I do kind of need an answer fairly fast as I am looking to purchase either tonight or tomorrow. :S

There shouldn't be any problems running it (there are a lot of programs that are being used on 64-bit systems that are only 32-bit), but your partner is correct that a 32-bit program won't be able to access as much memory as a 64-bit one can.

If you've got more than 4 gb of RAM on your system, and you intend to render in Poser, than Poser Pro 2012 is the better option.

Poser 9 will run on a 64 bit system but Poser Pro 2012 is so inexpensive at the moment I would go with PP2012 especially if you have a 64 bit computer with more than 4 gig of ram.

Oops, crossposted but I agree with the above. :)

yes the beast has 16 gigs of ram@.@

so.....it seems pp2012 is the one to go with.

With 16 gigs of ram, I would say most definitely especially if you wish to render large scenes.

Plus PoserPro 2012 has gamma correction.

With that much RAM and a 64bit system Poser 2012 is the way to go if you can afford it. It would be a real shame to have all that RAM and have Poser restricted to using less than a quarter.  Even if you are not doing complex scenes right now who knows what you will be doing a few months down the line.

I have been using Poser 2012 since it was first released I most of my final renders easily exceed 4Gig of memory with 12-16Gig being fairly common.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

I have been held back due to my normal puter being with 2gig ram and old as all get up. not to mention using p6. @.@ with what I am hearing.....I my mind may just explode with pp2012 >.<

Online Now!

I started with Poser 9 and upgraded later to Poser Pro 2012 because of the better use of memory. More than once Poser 9 stopped rendering at about 3 GB using of memory, while Poser Pro 2012 brought them all to an end without problems.

For example, in my Gallery you can find renders from the 'Bourbon Street Bar' with some characters, hair, highpoly clothes and SSS skin textures. For most of the rendertime Poser Pro 2012 used 14,8 GB to 15,4 GB of memory, so yes, the upgrade was a big improvement and well worth the money for me.

And especially because Poser Pro 2012 is still for sale for an unbeatable price I can only suggest to go for it instead of Poser 9.

Go with Poser Pro 2012. I used to routinely have problems rendering more than three or four fully-dressed figures in a room full of props using Poser 8, but when I went to Poser Pro 2010 on a 64-bit machine (with 24 GB RAM and six-physical/12-virtual cores) I was able to manage about 20 figures with no problem. (Although the pose room was very slow.) Poser Pro 2012 is even a little better on the memory management.
