So Ive been a long time lurker of these forums. Im finally ready to stop lurking and I am going to pick up a copy of Poser. I saw a tutorial from SKAmotion of how to make a bouncing ball animation and wanted to try my hand at it. (I figured I should start with something very simple for my first animation.)

If I buy Poser 9 will I be able to buy the Poser Pro 2012 upgrade at a later point? Does the pro upgrade only work if I have the previous pro version? I saw Poser 9 and the upgrade to Pro was a lil less money than just getting Poser Pro 2012.

I hope to eventually pick up V4 if i can get some of the basics down. Do the morphs/deformers in the marketplace that are for V$ also work with V4.2. Like if i wanted to buy some clothing and the easy buttox deformers. It says theres for V4, but will they also work with V4.2?

Yes. You will be able to buy the Poser Pro 2012 upgrade later.

No, you don't need a previous version to go Pro. You need the basic version for a sidegrade to the same version Pro version, but not to buy outright.

Yes, nearly all work with V4.2. Most vendors with a V4 product when the 4.2 update came out have long since updated their products for 4.2.

Yes, the butt deformers work on 4.2. Because the 4.2 update is so many years old now, nearly all V4 products work with 4.2

I think you will pay more in the long run getting 9 then the upgrade if you can get the pro now then grab it (think its on sale at the mo')

if you just want to get your feet wet in poser look on amazon they have older versions very cheap!! you still get upgrade options (you'll have to do the maths) but if poser aint your thing it wont hurt the wallet so much

Thanks for the replys, I found Poser 9 on amazon for $55.00.  I was doing the math and 9 plus the upgrade is still cheaper than buying Pro 2012. Unless you know somwhere Pro might be cheaper? I couldnt find it any less than $389.99

I've never posted a link before but incase it doesnt work its on youtube titled-  DAZ3D Animation Tools REQ for studio5 & Genesis

The motions in the vidoes look so realistic and the character movements look so natural. Can animations crealed in poser look this good? (obviously not by me but by real artists) Or were these walk cycles and movements made in Maya or some other 3D application? I'm just curious =)

1. Go for Poser Pro 2012. 

2. Get V4.2 and a character set for her.

3. Learn EZSkin for SSS

4. Learn to setup a basic IDL lighting scene using BB's EnvSphere.

5. Render

6. Profit

I wish smith micro would of told me the above things somewhere in the software instead of wasting weeks and months on a forum.

I just got Poser 12 pro, taking advantage of the sale. I have used Poser 9 a little bit but have let it sit for a long time while I spend more time with Blender. But, now that I have this, I am taking my time. I think I screwed up my installation of Poser 9 and put files in the wrong place. So, I am reading as much as I can before I actually load the program on to my computer. I don't know why the file structures in Poser are so confusing to me. Does anyone have advice for the cleanest, easiest way to get Poser set up on to my computer?

I have been following this forum for a couple of years I think, getting daily downloads of postings and being kind of overwhelmed. I know this is a very active forum with a huge database of postings. Even that is daunting.

Please do a dafault install.
That will save you a ton of problems and weeks of trouble shooting.
