Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 08 9:27 am)
Quote - Is it possible to pose at least two figures struggling with each other and save that as a single pose file?
That would be too convenient and clever. Smith Micro believes in doing things THE HARD WAY. They want us to do extra work so we mentally excercise our brain, to make sure we don't get alzheimer's.
You should be able to pose two naked, unmodified figures together, save as a scene, then reload and add any morphs, clothes, props, etc. you want, then tweak the poses to accomodate changes in figure height, weight, and so on. I do it with Posette, so it should work (in theory) with any figures.
As far as purchased sets go, I have only seen matching images for this. For example, one will be in a red body suit and the other in white. The two thumbnails in the Library are the exact same thumb, with one listed as Red ## and the other as White ## with both ## being the same for that pairing.
Here is the product used in the example:
You cannot save the poses of multiple figures in a single pose file
You can however save the figures together in a single file in the library
Parent each of the figures to another figure, then you can save the parent to the library including all the figures.
I often use a null figure to parent the other figures to
Creating a null figure is extremely simple:
Load a box (or other primitive) Go to the setup room, click ok for warning Now leave the setup room, click ok for warning Now you have a null figure
Parent the other figures to the box (and make the box invisible if you want)
Now save the new figure which was made out of the box to the library and keep attached figures
Quote - Yeah, sure enough, it doesn't work... only saves the pose of one of the figures you select in the "Select Subset" box.
Certainly, I've always used the parented figures saved to a cr2, or the Scene Library option my before... guess that's why :)
How would poser know which figures to apply the pose to?
I think that is the main reason. And if you would use named or use sequence numbers, it is going to get pretty difficult to manage
Yeah, I can see where it would indeed get functionally complex to orchestrate the application of the saved pose (and indeed how multiple poses might be saved).
Not just multiple instances of say V4, but say, you might have a V4 an M4, Miki4, etc... that you were saving poses for... and expecting to load back in.
It would be a bit trickier when it comes to loading than say the hand pose, with its pop up left or right hand question, there.
No wonder it doesn't work / isn't available.
The "Select Subset" box is obviously just intended to facilitate saving data for a subset of parts of the one figure.
;)
Quote - I have noticed that the Select Subset is more importantly related to including the ground as part of the pose. This selection anchors the pose to the ground; if it is deselected, the model will pose suspended in the air despite saving the pose back into the Library as on the ground.
Thanks - that's useful to know.
So, is the ground automatically selected if the "Select Subset" button isn't clicked on at all?
I did note that, as soon as I did click that "Select Subset" button, by default, everything in my scene (apart from the ground!) was in fact showing as selected, in the scene hierarchy view that pops up...

^ This is my understanding as well.
Most people save scenes as part of a WIP, so of course they might make changes to specific figure as they go along, then render or export for postwork. For me, my example above is the completed piece when I decide there are no more changes to make in the stock/default scene, so it has always been how I save a multi-figure pose set since I always intend to adjust the figures/props to make them specific characters that are already positioned, lit, and shot in a stock setting. Since all of my poses have the figures dropped to the floor (regardless of the actual pose), I want them to load on the ground and not floating. If I ever make Supergirl or some such, I will pay attention so the fly/hover poses save unattached to the ground just so I do not have to fuss with detaching them later.
