Subject: How to make hair work (not intersecting the face)?

JimGale ( ) posted Mon, 15 April 2013 at 11:02 AM · edited Thu, 23 January 2025 at 5:08 PM

I am using DesirHair, however, ths question applies to all.

Without making Einstein on a static electric machine, how do you make hair not collide with the face (i.e. come out of the face by intersecting)?  Is it only sizing and dialing?

Thanks!

Most hair has movement morphs built in to counteract intersecting clothes and heads but yes, it's basically sizing and dialing.

Use magnets, when necessary. They usually work very well for that sort of thing. They're also faster to deal than hunting through dialspin combinations with when you're trying to work quickly. (Some creators have never heard of organizing their dials in an intuitive manner... :D )

Either you can just add them as you need them, create and save sets of them on your own, or you can buy something like the "Hair Control System" available through Renderosity. It's just magnets, but it also has lots of presets and controls built into them.

Still, adding magnets is easy and when you get the hang of it, you can customize just about any hairstyle the way you need it.

Now, we are assuming that you are having these problems with the hair conformed to the model.  These issues usually appear after applying a pose to the figure not so much in the T-stance.

My current figure is a head shot and, although not a T-stance (arms are at least down :) ), head is in the same position. Plus the hair is meant for the figure. So, I'll use the magnet-then-dials approach. :)

Thanks!!

Don't forget the Morph Brush.  It can do some quick movement morphs.
