Subject: KettleBell Adjustable weight prop

A friend asked me to do some renders of a female model doing some exercise routines using the KettleBell Adjustable Weight prop.

I did a search on the Poser/3D sites hoping to find one but there are none out there I can get my hands on.

I don't know how to model so creating my own realistic version is out of the question.

Here is what it looks like. Anyone sees one in the community please let me know.

Do the weights need to be removable ?

momodot ( ) posted Tue, 05 March 2013 at 5:47 PM

As a last resort you could try making them with a ball prop and a torus prop from the primitives folder. You can scale and taper those to diguise them... make a simple texture. I used to make complex props from primiteves exported as .obj files and imported back and saved as props to "glue" the pieces together.

Here is one I made, I will post the obj file, it is only 112k if you want it.

This was modelled after one that the weights come out the bottom.

The ball itself is uv mapped if you want to make a name plate.

Heres the obj if its not too big for the forum. rename it as an obj and import to about 15%

This is nice. The handle however really nedds to be tubular due to the way they do the exercises with it. There is a lot of twisting in the hand with some of the exercises and the flat handle would be difficult for that to happen.

Bu thanks so much for this. I appreciate it.

I am going to try that again. The problem was making a relistic tubular handle for it to make it look REAL.

No not really. In the first book done photographically, the weights were disassembled and posed next to the rest of the bell to show how it works but not necessary. The important thing is that it look realistic and and if possible, possess different UVs for each part of the prop so I can texture as needed.

Hi

Thanks so much.

I was playing with the first one lastnight and did some reworking on it. The ball was too facetd so I replced the ball (turning the original invisible and replacing it with a higher res ball which, thanks to your foresight of giving the elements seperate uv sets, was easy to do.) and added a few little accessories to make it look more like one of the real ones I found and it looks good.

Here is a quick and dirty render of it in play.

ok.

My friend reviewd the image I sent him...finally...and decided the kettlebell in the image was the wrong one. He sent me a copy of the one he is using for the book and needs for the model to be just like ot.

THis really sucks. I hate feeling like a beggar. Anyone want to try this one? I wish I knew how to model myself...but....

Hey Mark

I tried the second model you peovided for shits and giggles and realized two things:

It is prettyl low res and the curvature of the bell is badly faceted.

Also, there is no handle for it. Was it forgotten?

Do you think you could make a higher resed version of it with handle so the bell curvature is smoother and the handle and bell look more like the new image I provided?

I may not be able to pay you but I can see if the publisher is willing to print your name as a credit for it in the project(s) as they arise.

Here, I made this for you:

kettlebell

http://i.imgur.com/TUiuYJ3.jpg (Full Size)

(I hate this forum's code... )

I'll upload it to Renderosity Freebies. Here's a quick file link if you need it before it is cleared: http://www.sendspace.com/file/npz3vc (Rar file)

Includes UV Map and separate materials zones for ease of use, but no textures or mats. It is in Wavefront Object format. Just import, scale a little bit, use some decent "iron" mats (I sugguest grabbing some very nice free ones from some old RDNA freebies.) and change the diffuse colors as you like. The Label is flat-mapped, so it won't stretch out of whack.

(I dug up a very low res schematic for that manufacturer's model.)

Free for personal use, may be redistributed in whole, but not in part. May not be redistributed for sale. Because the design may be patented or otherwise copyrighted, I have no power to authorize commercial renders.

(Submitted to Renderosity Freebies.)

PS - Hmmm.. I didn't notice that the base needed to come off. :D I just went from the schematics. If you need one without the base, let me know and I'll do it real quick. (I cut some polys out to reduce unnecessary ones, so you can't just hide the Base material, else the Bell won't have a bottom. :D )

Wow this is great. Yes the base needs to be removeable as well.

On the bell I see the base of the bell is a disc I guess for locking the base on so the extra weights can be added or removed. So if you make the square bas removeable as a seperate part please include the thin black disc on bottom as in this new image.

Thanks so very much!

Ah! That makes things easier! All I have to do is add that part, instead of having to reconstruct the whole bell sphere.

No problem, I'll have you a new one in a jiffy!

Morkonan ( ) posted Thu, 18 April 2013 at 12:15 AM

Here you go, updated with new bottom for kettlebell and a separate base:

I'll update the file in the freebies listing as well.

Enjoy!

(Same restrictions apply as the old one.)
