Subject: this : in the file name, I think, is the reason Rhythms Muse doesn't work on my

estherau ( ) posted Sun, 05 May 2013 at 8:18 PM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 9:29 AM

Are there any other mac users that can test this for me please?  you need the two sets Rhythms Muse as well as country gal which is here in the MP.

The prop is named CowgirlGuitar:1 but in mac the : are used for pathnames so mac won't allow the prop to be named to that (I'm assuming because poser puts up a message that says that symbol can't be used) and changes the prop name to CowgirlGuitar_1 when you load it into poser, but if I change the prop name to something else within poser, and then change the one reference to it in the pz2 I still can't get the pz2 to work.

Have you tried what lunchlady suggests in her product description?

"In order to use the Prop poses, load the prop into the scene and parent to Victoria 4's Hip
(Object>Change Parent>V4>Hip)
then apply Prop pose."

estherau ( ) posted Sun, 05 May 2013 at 11:22 PM

yep.  Also I have other poses with props that i have used successfully from other sets that are working correctly.  I don't know why it won't work in this case.

I'm buying a gift voucher for a friend of mine who is better at poser than I am.  He doesn't have a mac but he may be able to figure out what the problem is.

i'll keep you posted.  It is a really good set and I really need what it should be able to do at the moment.

In general, PZ2 files don't work on a freestanding prop.  They're meant to work on a figure.... but will usually work on a prop if any old figure is in the scene.  If some figure is here, and the prop has the names and parameters that the PZ2 specifies, the action will happen.

well this set has guitar and V4 poses separately.  I thought I changed the name of the prop and then changed the one reference to it in the pz2 file using text edit and saved the pz2 as a file called test.pz2, and I could see this from within poser and clicked on it whislt the guitar was selected but no joy.

The prop has an internal name as well as a name in properties.  But the original pz2 didn't reference the internal name.

It's very odd.

I found this bit in the pz2 when i opened it in textedit, but my target figure is a V4 and hopefully referencing that object.

I tried to check the cr2 which I think would show me if the girl is blMilWom_v4b or some older version. However it's a CRZ so it's gibberish in the textedit.

Victoria 4's geometry file is blMilWom_v4b.obj, so the targetFigure line seems correct. You can uncompress a CRZ or other compressed library file with uncompressPoserFiles.py which should be in your Poser scripts. Other utilities are available, but most seem written for Windows so no use to you.

jancory ( ) posted Mon, 06 May 2013 at 2:41 PM

i don't have the sets myself but try changing the pz2 prop reference from prop CowgirlGuitar:1 (or whatever it is) to actor $CURRENT, that should let it apply. make sure you select the prop before applying the pz2.  still must have a Figure in the scene. prop doesn't need to be parented.  you should not need to change the name of the prop in the pp2, except of course if macs don't accept the names with :1.

The prop works if parented to the hip of the figure as instructed.... in Windows.

There seems to be a problem with some of the poses when using it on the Mac version of Poser. I have looked at those particular pose files which do not work and they do have some code in there which does not belong to the pose (keyframes for a walk pose). Maybe that is the cause of the problem on the Mac or it could be a poser configuration problem.

Estherau will test this and see of a cleaned pose file fixes that problem

estherau ( ) posted Mon, 06 May 2013 at 8:10 PM

I assumed the problem was in all of the poses because I had only tried guitar16 and guitar17, however these were actually the two that weren't working.  The other guitar poses work without the need to alter the pz2. haven't tried microphone and guitar poses as yet though.

A reinstall of the product did not fix.

Wim's edited pz2 actually does work!  Yahoo!

How weird is that. Anyone else out there with this set and a mac?

Okay, well it is probably as you all suspected but were too polite to say.  THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE PRODUCT.  i;m sorry everyone. I am a total idiot!

This is what I think happened. I must have tried the poses without parenting.  then parented but tried them without the prop selected, then opened the pz2 to see what was "wrong" and changed the Pz2 and saved over the original.

I tried reinstalling the product but I accidentally forgot to reinstall the pose files.

Sorry every one.

I better go leave a product review.

Here's a pic to show it really does work fine!

I have tooned the guitar and the girl etc in this pic, so if the guitar texture looks washed out it is just because of the way I modify my textures using semidieu's tooning software from rdna with olivier's art materials.

actually the guitar doens't have to be selected when applying the pose, but then the V4 moves as well as the guitar (because of the parenting of course) and you can just drop them to the floor aftewards.  this happened because my V4 is scaled to look younger.

estherau ( ) posted Tue, 07 May 2013 at 4:54 AM

but I'm sure most people would have figure it out sooner.  It was because i have mountain lion and it doesn't have save as, unless i click the option key, so I must have inadvertantly saved over the PZ2s that i thought were faulty thus turning suspicion into a reality caused by me.

I'm a total nut.

well I only tore some of my hair out and I suppose it will grow back eventually (like my pride)

At least my set is working. I really need it for my next part of my comic. It's critically important in a quirky sort of way.

Just like getting my characters to hold guns, getting them to hold instruments can be equally difficult and I need my poser peeps to be able to do both.

Although I have got better at posing over the years, I cannot do it as quickly as premade.

I made the guitar that way on purpose.....the biggest possible size that is used so it can be scaled to any size. So there are actually guitars that big, but it's better for quality purposes always to scale down than up when it comes to Poser/and graphics.

I already told her, I've done similar stuff as this, spent all day trying to figure out what's wrong with Poser only to find out it was me doing the wrong, were all human and it's all good :)

Ever stop to think, and forget to start again?

Yeah, sorry, I wasn't meaning to criticise your modelling! I hadn't appreciated that Esther's character was scaled down at first, so the guitar looked huge in comparison.

estherau ( ) posted Tue, 07 May 2013 at 5:51 PM

well I didn't adjust the guitar and the pose fits so maybe the prop did scale down with her?

Is she dating a Kennedy? I think that kind of cascading failure happens a lot (e.g. comes out in aircraft crash investigations etc.) You start of with one wrong assumption and then it's off to the races. At least you come out with only a slightly bruised ego and you'll probably never make that mistake again :-)
