Okay, so here is the contest: Do a picture in the 3D App(s) of your choice, and post it here. The subject of the picture must in some way deal with the theme of masks, for example, something along the lines of the picture I did above. The contest will close at 5:00 pm EST on Sunday, September 9. To enter, just post your pic here, which will automatically email me. Nothing posted elsewhere will be considered! The prize will be my Sakari package from the store here. I will be the sole judge on the prize winner. The criteria are entirely subjective, but I will be looking for creativity, originality, execution, adherence to the theme, etc., etc. Again, I realize that's subjective, but hey -- it's a free contest, after all! (If you already have a Sakari and you are the winner, then you may pick something else from my store.)

genny ( ) posted Mon, 03 September 2001 at 4:50 PM

Sounds COOL.....but what is a "Sakari", what you need to understand is, that, NOT all of us have been here that long....so when you say things like that.......well.....we are really STUMPED? genny

Exotica ( ) posted Mon, 03 September 2001 at 4:53 PM

Sakari is the character pictured above. You can see the entire package by going to my store.

hankim ( ) posted Mon, 03 September 2001 at 5:08 PM

So everyone knows that might care, I am recusing myself from this contest due to the fact that I discussed the concept and helped plan the details and mechanics of the contest :-) Anyway, genny made me think of something: We "Vicki-centric" people sometimes forget that there are PLENTY of people who for whatever reason either don't want or don't have Vicki, without whom Sakari is practically useless. I think the winner should be able to pick something else, if they don't want Sakari. How about it, pd?

Exotica ( ) posted Mon, 03 September 2001 at 5:18 PM

No problem! That's a great idea. I have a new product for Posette coming out in a few days as well as the leotard texture set already in the store.

dragongirl ( ) posted Mon, 03 September 2001 at 6:41 PM

Okie dokie - masks it is! I'll be back! :-) Just took a look at your character pages in the store - she is really beautiful - I like the exotic look of her. Very nice work! -dg

Ms_Outlaw ( ) posted Mon, 03 September 2001 at 8:37 PM

I have wanted her for a while now. Love the eyes mainly. Though all of her is nice.

Nestorenko Hair, Heavy Horse By Bloodsong, Female Texture and bump, Mask By me. Done in poser with Photoshop5 post production. The lieutanant's mask I made a bit ago for the series I'm doing with her.

Thanks for your entry Phantom! By the way, I forgot to mention that all rights to the artwork remain with the artist. I'm not going to be using the images for anything other than this contest. Feel free to post them in the gallery if you choose. :)

I did this image a long time ago for a poem I had written. One I also lost. It was about a woman searching the mirror for the happyness some how lost. This is nothing like the poem was, but it's the jest of it. All the pain, all the fears All the lies, all the tears. This the cost, Youth now lost. With mask in place, all is well. With the plastic smile, no one can tell. Sorry, it's not a great poem. One of those from the heart things don't always come out right. ~S~

This picture answers that age old question: "How do Poser women keep from messing up their faces, hair, and makeup when they are asleep?" Technical: Mask figure, face and eyeball texture are from Sassy Emily by Magnet Hair by Kosaburo Side Table from AZL's Craftsman Furniture Set Wallpaper from Texture Set 4 found on DAZ3D Mask Stand and eyeball foam are simple Poser props The lacecover is based on a transparency and bump map that I developed in Photoshop. PS. This was real fun!! Thank you for starting the contest!

Something in the movement... Something in the orient... Dragons fly create my trance... Tao Lin and her fans begin to dance. Inspired by a lil goth chick dancer at City Club in Detroit and the "Mask Contest by pd11761". Not exactly a mask, but dancing and the orient were all that came to mind as I thought of an entry for this contest. Thanks pd11761 for holding this! See the credits for this render on my gallery page.

Hi - here's my entry for your contest: Gold Bird Mask - One of the Underground Shamans Bryce - Poser - Amorphium Poser figure textured in Bryce, all my own original textures. Clothing, jewelry and headgear are all my own models. Mask created using Anton Keisel's DAZ Songbird. I first posed it to create the mask - then brought it into Bryce - duplicated the wings and some of the tail feathers and moved them to make the mask a bit fuller - and then did a couple of booleans to create the eyeholes in the Bird. I love your Sakari texture and character and have really enjoyed viewing all the great mask pictures, one of my favorite themes. Thanks for having your contest. :-) -dg

Here is mine. I'm not much of a beauty designer so I went for my usual stuff. I modeled the mask, rifle and boxes in Rhino 2.0.

Thanks all - you're really making it tough on me!

Exotica ( ) posted Sun, 09 September 2001 at 4:09 PM

The contest is now closed. I'd like to thank all of you for your wonderful entries. Just so no one goes away empty-handed, I made a special little texture set as a consolation prize that won't be available in freestuff or for sale anywhere. It was inspired by my "Out of Africa" texture set - an African print texture for Vicki's bikni top, bottom & skirt. I'll have my decision shortly. :)

Exotica ( ) posted Sun, 09 September 2001 at 4:38 PM

First of all, ALL of the pictures are really great. I really have a scrambled brain right now from having pick to a winner. But pick I did, and the winner is... Shadownet. I like the concept, the use of bright color in a very "grim" picture, and I particularly like the way the poses all work together in that happy little troupe :-) Like I said earlier, everyone deserves a prize for entering, so if you will email me I will tell you where to get the special texture set I made. Shadownet, email me with your choice from the store, and I will let them know that you can download it, and then let you know the details how. Thanks again everybody. Great work!!! :-)

shadownet ( ) posted Sun, 09 September 2001 at 4:44 PM

Mouth drops. What? You mean I won? How on earth could you decide? There were some really great entries. Had to be a really close and tough decision. Well, I'd like to thank the Academy, my Mother.... :o) Er, I'll skip the speach and just say thank you. This was a lot of fun. Rob

georgedvore ( ) posted Sun, 09 September 2001 at 6:49 PM

congrats, robb. thanks for holding the contest pd11761, it was good motivation working on the brief ;-)

I'm thinking of having another one soon, maybe to promote my new eyeball textures for Posette. Just not sure how many people still use Posette as opposed to Vicki.
