Subject: Genesis questions

So i finally decided to try out Genesis through ds-on. I must say it's awesome! I like how you can use M4 textures and poses. The interface is cleaner, no morph injections, smooth bending, everything became so easy! My main concern was all the problems i heard people having, but so far everything is smoother. Genesis even loads like 10x faster than michael 4. Sadly,  i'll still be using M4/V4 most of the time since i don't wanna re-buy everything.

But there's a few things i was wondering. I also have Freak 5 but haven't installed it yet. Is it related in any way to Genesis? Would i be able to use M4/V4 textures and poses on him? And is it possible to use Ezskin 2 with genesis? I did notice the unhide dial script works with Genesis.

Freak 5 is a Genesis Morph

Yes, M4 and V4 textures work on Genesis, as far as I know.  Not sure about poses.  DS guys may know about that.

EZSkin2...not sure.  To be honest, when I use Genesis, I use it in DS, not Poser.

Then freak 5 is getting installed as we speak!

There's always a PoserCF file that comes with the installation. Do i have to install this everytime? I didn't install it for things like evolution morphs, and they still worked.

Morphs normally work OK, textures don't without the PCF.

mec4d wrote a script so you could change uv sets in poser.. I can't remember the link lol

Ahhh ok. Yeah i notice i couldn't access the textures on non ds-on figures. Only one i could get the textures on was the Genesis Gorilla. Dunno why, but when i imported the figure, the texture came with it =P

Did you ever figure out the war orc head problem GOM?

EZSkin does have a Genesis setting for it.  IIRC it is already built in.

piccolo_909 ( ) posted Sun, 12 May 2013 at 5:14 PM

I heard that people were having a lot of problems with it, especially on installation, having slowdown, and interferring with M4/V4. So far it's running good and everything actually seems faster than with working on gen4. I'm running it in a sandbox right now. Before i install it on my system, is there any problems i should be aware of?

Do be aware that any morphs added to Genesis in DAZ will be cumulative in Poser which will create a horrendously large file, a potential for Poser slowdown.  And I have come across a few items that did not convert correctly causing Poser to crash.

Oh, that's probably why then. I don't have daz studio installed. Guess i'll go ahead and install it all then. What's weird is that Genesis even installs faster for me than my old stuff.

I haven't ever been able to find the EZSkin for Genesis.

And there is a way to make the slowdown better. Turn off the higher res figure until yu are ready to render.

EZskin works on Genesis with Gen4 sets. Have not tried with Gen5. Just EZskin a texture set, save it under a skin preset in pose or materials and load it on Genesis.

It's true about the morphs being cumulative. I'd prefer the INJ/REM option. Especially since any newly installed morphs won't show up in saved characters.  You can clean Genesis up by manually deleting files from the ../data/morphs folder in the Daz Studio folder.

Actually that's a good point to know, Vestmann.  Must jot it down somewhere.

BTW, how are you doing?  Haven't seen much of you lately.
