Subject: splitting runtimes

Hello :)

I have a question... maybe there is a work around and I don´t know...

Are there any way to split Runtimes and not need to reisntall all over again? I mean, I have a BIG HUGE Runtime with all kind of scenery things... and I now would prefer to split it in Daz Scenes, DM Scenes, etc... I can easily make a new one with the zips and installers but removing the content frm the actual could a PITA... any script that could do this?????

    My concern would be to get all of a given item's dependent files along with the item itself (i.e., OBJs, vis/deltas, texture JPEGs)

     D3D's RunZip could do that;  you could select multiple items (or entire folders) from your content library to pack up, and RunZip will seek out and include all dependent files automatically.

     You'd then unzip to your new libraries.

     But I'll defer to anyone else who probably has a better way to do this.

I may not have correctly understood, but if you're just looking for a way to organize your content, you could just go into the Libraries folder (in Windows) and create subdirectories manually. You shouldn't need to move the Geometry or texture files (unless they're in the same subdirectory as the prop itself, which is kinda unorthodox). That's what I do, so all my V4 clothes are in one place, all my vehicle props in one place, etc. Moving your Characters and Props into new subdirectories (within their correct Library) shouldn't affect how they work in Poser because they'll still be able to reference their geometry and texture files just as easily.

But then, I may be answering the wrong question.

Yes, you can leave geometries, textures, INJ/REM and Python in your main Runtime. Just organise the library files themselves - but if there are PMD and OBJ files that live in the library folders along with their dependants, move them to the same place.

If in doubt, use a Poser file editor to check what files are used; but Poser will always search in the same folder that the library file is in, so there's no need to alter paths of the form -

figureResFile :Runtime:libraries:Character:Something:Something.obj

This is how my own library is arranged. I use P3dO and PX as my library interface, so for most things I don't even go near the Poser library.

I do make small conventional runtimes for testing stuff that I make or test for others, though.

Folders can be moved between runtimes within the library so PMD's and OBJ's will be kept together.  The relative paths will be retained for all other instances of a file.  However, hunting down each corresponding support file through your browser will be a nightmare.

Thank you to all, I think I will go for reinstalling the things I want off of the big runtimes and that is all... all what you said was very usefull!!!!!

if you have the hard drive space!!!

make all new runtimes (eg v4 would become 1v4 woteva)

load all the stuff you really really need in new runtime

remove old runtime(v4)from poser, poser gets a speed hit

if you need something you had but grrrrrrrrrrr!! load up the old v4 runtime ;-)

not ideal answer but might save u a few mins hours weeks lol

I have been trying to tame my runtimes too. Shaderwork's Library Manager with the Runtimes Manager plugin will collect together all related files in a folder. However, it is probably quicker to just reinstall if you have all the files handy.

P3dO Explorer pro has a tool to split Runtimes, it si called "Runtime Manager".

Look at the 4th promo picture called "Move CR2", of course it does also PP2 and H2.
