Subject: What is the Poser record for the most moving parts in a figure?

Paloth ( ) posted Thu, 23 May 2013 at 5:09 AM · edited Tue, 03 September 2024 at 8:23 PM

My Dragon of Plenty has 240 moving parts. I probably don't hold the record. What figure out there has more parts?

I've never counted them but I reckon Questor's Terminator would take some beating.  It's a big bugger.

Is that figure still available? My Google search didn't pan out.

Hmm.  Several of my gadgets have lots of moving parts, but I don't think I can beat 240.  The PBX switchboard is around 120 (buttons, dial, posable cord segments).  The Hollerith machine is also around 120, with two hands and reset button on each dial.  The histogram thingie has 205 parts.

lol dunno wot the record is but more then 10 scares the heck out a newbie

Good point.  Most of these things achieve their parts count by multi-segment posable cords or ropes or tentacles or limbs.

A well-designed figure using such cords or tentacles will always have a single control for each cord, either by internal ERC or by external Python.

I recall shvrdavid stating at one point that he'd built a testing or development weight-mapped figure which had so many helper bones that it caused Poser to run slowly.  That might have been due to all of the deltakey ERC, though, and not the number of parts.   Anyway, I don't know how many parts there were.  So I guess, as is so often the case, Cage had added nothing to this thread.

I always sort of expect Bloodsong to show up in a thread like this, or one of the figurebuild experts from way back.

I once imported a 3ds Pontiac Fiero and it had about 200 groups.  I started rigging the doors for Poser and gave up...

@ Paloth - Most likely not.  Questor's stuff - particularly the Terminator - was very frequently ripped off by others trying to pass it off as their own work.  In fact, there was some comedian on ShareCG doing exactly that last year.

Anyhow, I'll have to fire up Poser and take a look.  I'll report back later.

The ERC pigtail hair I build years ago has 125 actors, counting BODY.  Even with ERC to steer the main actor chains, I find it very awkward to use.  Poser has no problems with the number of actors, however.

The Smoke tool has 100 body parts, each of which have 100 switchable geometry parts. Bringing the total parts list to 10,000.
