"What 3D Program Should I buy?" Not one person here can really tell you what's best for you, as everyone has their own taste in workflow. Try the demo or learning edition of the program you're interested in, this is the only way to find out which programs you like.

If I were a potential Silo user, I'd take a long hard look at Nvil first. For $79, you get a powerful modeling app which is very similar to Silo in many ways, and even better in some others; like it's still being developed. I had the opportunity to play around in Nvil for the first time at the University. They are incorporating it into the apprentice CAD/VIZ curriculum, as a modeling alternative for entry-level students, along-side 3dsmax, which is the required software our school has for the advanced courses. I believe they used Silo for the novice classes previously, and replaced it with Nvil. Personally, I still very much prefer the modeling tools available in Max, but I was very impressed with Nvil's capabilities.______________________________________

Thanks kindly.... I've downloaded the demo of this previously and I found it very confusing....Sorry but I'd take Wings3D, Hexagon3D or Silo over Nvil...
Nevercenter is still around. It's just not updating Silo anymore. The forums have moved to cgsociety. Silo does its purpose, which is modeling quickly compared to using other apps to model with. Modo used to be that way. But it became a kitchen sink modeler over the years that never mastered a single one of its tools. It's more of a jack of all trades app.
Hexagon and Silo did good at designing tools that are easy and quick to use. I updated to 3D-Coat 4, which is starting to do polygon modeling now more than in previous versions. I hope to have time this week to learn its tools.
Nvil reminds me of 3D Crafter. Painful to use.

Hmm. I'm surprised by the negative reactions to Nvil in this forum. It seemed quite capable and flexible pure modeler to me when I messed around in it. Although I will admit it got a little confusing to me too, and I'm someone used to modeling in 3dsmax. ;)
I would never choose Hexagon for the reason that it's an incredibly unstable software, and it requires you confirm virtually all of your actions, which slows the modeling process. It seemed very limiting also in how many polys you could work with before it choked. I wouldn't go the route of Wings these days (even though I started on Wings) also because of the limited polygon count before the software starts chugging along.. unless you use 64 bit Linux. Plus none of these applications allows you to maintain a modeling history, which I find essential for many reasons. I guess Blender would be my choice of free apps, if I had to give up Max.

Nvil allows you to use the key bindings from Silo and some other apps, and has a direct access to 3D Coat, so that's probably why educational institutions are choosing to move to it from Silo, since the future of Silo is pretty much a dead end by the look of it.
Lux, no offense to anyone here, but you have to understand that this site is predominantly Poser and Daz content makers, and many modelers here often model for that end goal So high poly isn't what most are looking to achieve, and ease of use seems to take a priority over functionality. As long as there are basic modeling features in the app like bridging, extrusions, beveling, and loop selections, then it's good enough to creat most basic shapes and morphs, and easy enough for even the most novice user.

I noticed that Silo3D ver 2 is for sale on steam for $59.... I thought Silo3D was a dying product? Does anyone know if there will be any future versions of Silo3D?The price certainly sounds enticing but I already have Hexagon and Groboto which appear to be abandoned apps...
Also is steam some sort of a runtime environment that is a prerequisite to run Silo3D which must be installed on your computer?
Thanks kindly....
