Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 18 5:11 pm)
When you try and load V4 into Poser it will look for the Poser .EXE file, many have got around this by just putting a file called Poser.exe in the relavant runtime (the one with V4 in it. The fact that you are trying to add the ++ morphs suggests you already have V4 loaded so it may need to be initialised. You should have a shortcut on your desktop to be able to do that.
If that does not work someone else will almost certainly be able to help but knowing what version of Poser you are installing and on what Operating System would help. If you are in a hurry, try searching the forum as this probelm is quite common.
I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 - Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU . The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.
And hopefully the individual will give adequate information to get you started. However, please provide as much information about installation and OS environment as possible. By your path, PP2012 is in the correct folder, however, if your are running Vista, Win7 or Win8 and your content is in the same runtime as your executable installation, you will have UAC interference issues.
I'm running Windows 7
Computer specs are
Hp Pro 3500
Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-3240 CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.40 Ghz
4.00 GB (3.89 GB usable)
64 - bit Operating System
After installing Poser Pro, I also seen 2 runtimes. I have installed other stuff into the correct runtime. I have open Poser and this stuff works just fine. Do I delete that other runtime folder? Why do I need 2 runtimes? At first I installed to wrong runtime and found that this was a problem and deleted the folders in it, and installed to correct runtime.
Hi Shaylea,
Here is what you do:
Goto your
C:program filesSmith MicroPoser Pro
Find a file called PoserPro.exe
Create a copy of PoserPro.exe
Rename it Poser.exe
Now duing your install point to this folder
C:program filesSmith MicroPoser Pro
The installer will now find Poser.exe
Let us know if this works.

Really no need to copy, paste and rename. Use a text edit and save an empty txt file. Change the name of the file to Poser.exe and there is your dummy executable which you can place into the parent folder of any runtime.
@Shaylea: you will find that, overtime, you will accumulate too much content. Now is the time to consider organizing you content before it gets unmanageable. Categorizing is the first step in separating content into their own unique files. It is easier to find models and associated MAT files and poses. And keeping them in their own folders makes it easier to backup and move if you change computers.
Many users have spread their content over numerous runtime folders. I, myself, have about 20 individual runtimes, each at a modest size to conserve disk space. Now that I have upgrade my hard drive, I will be introducing other models and characters I have ignored for quite a long time. It is an ongoing process sometimes, but you will know what you have in the long run and where they're located.

NOOOOO!! Make an empty text file in the runtime where you want to install Vicky and her morphs and name the text file Poser.exe (removing the .txt at the end). Windows will tell you the file may become corrupt, but click ok anyway ;). It's just a placeholder so that Daz's wacky installers see it.

Edit: Whoops sorry hborre...I really should read ;).

NO, NO, NO!
This will cause you no end of trouble in Windows 7. Either create an empty folder with a file called Poser.exe, or put one in the location where Poser installed its content during installation (which, if you are using Windows Vista, 7 or 8, should NOT be the Poser program directory if you installed Poser under Program Files)...

Hi,
Here is my problem. I have been trying different paths for several days and none are correct.
Can anyone help me please make the right Destination Directory?
The path I choose and thought to be correct are
C:program filesSmith MicroPoser Pro 2012runtime
I'm trying to install Victoria 4.2 Morphs ++ into posers runtime. I keep getting this error message.
"When used with Poser TM, "Victoria 4.2 Morphs" must be installed to the same directory as the application executable; due to restrictions on support file locations.
Please select the directory that contains your Poser executable."
Any help will sure be appreciated.
thanks, Judy aka Shaylea
