Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 11 2:52 am)
Quote - where should i put a folder called IM00011220-02_LewannaHairStudioCF
Hmh...you already gave the answer:
Quote - I only have one poser_genesis file.
I put all the poser genesis stuff in this one folder. (wish they could be separate eg poser genesis hair, poser genesis shoes but oh well)
Quote - I have Lewanna hair in an external runtime called Poser_Lewanna_Hair or something like that already.
Do you really have an external runtime just for some hair???
Quote - I double up and mix the DS stuff with my poser external runtimes as well.
Does that mean you double install the textures in DS and other runtimes? What's the point of that? To bloat your harddrive?
Quote - Can you suggest how I should install the V6 stuff into poser bearing in mind I like multiple external runtimes in poser.
You create a Genesis 2 runtime.
REALLY?
What's the problem with only one runtime? Works perfect if you do it logically.
For example
Characters ->
Clothing->
-> V4
-> Dress Sexy
-> Dress Slut
-> Genesis
-> V5
-> Dress Sluttier
-> Genesis 2
-> V6
-> Dress Sluttiest
(includes V3, V4, V5 morphs if you purchase them)
You can put the MAT files to the Character files since you can open them in newer versions of Poser from other locations than just Materials or Pose. So move all your hair textures to the HAIR directory and the corresponding folders.
In my POSE directory there are really only Poses left. In LIGHTS only Special Light Sets not the ones for Scenes.
The MAT files for characters as M4 and V4 I put under M4 and V4 in CHARACTERS. The same with the Morphs. It's the easiest way to find something if you want to create a new figure.
Put all Props that are figure files and usually located in the Character directory under PROPS because if Poser loads them you know if it's a prop or figure anyway. And it's stupid to load a frame for a bed from the Characters directory and the morphing mattress for it from the Props directory. Or?
Put all Scenes to SCENE - include the MATS there too, the CAMERA and LIGHTS folder for the scenes too - why hop from directory to another?
For example
Scene ->
School ->
Office Headmaster ->the *pz3 file
PROPS
CAMERA
LIGHTS
POSE (M4+V4)
If you put new content in your runtime always delete any folders named in vanity for the vendor. It's just easier to find a Sexy Dress for V4 in a runtime if you just use the product's name. And you know the Freak-She Morphs for the Dress are in that folder too if you have them plus the One-Night-Stand Textures.
I really hope your posting was meant to be ironic but since so many people question how to install the content I took it seriously. :-)
I find it quick and easy to install into external runtimes, and very easy to find my stuff. Here is a part of my collection of poser runtimes.
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
but doesn't the dson importer need to just have only one folder with my genesis stuff in it. if I make a genesis2 folder you think that will still work. Okay I'll try it.

Quote - but doesn't the dson importer need to just have only one folder with my genesis stuff in it.
It needs one DSON folder (that's the one that builds the 'auto_adapted' thing). And it needs a runtime in DS where you don't have to put your stuff in. It just has to be there. Don't change what has worked before!
Quote - if I make a genesis2 folder you think that will still work.
I meant a Genesis 2 folder for the Poser CF files, the ones with the *.dufs in it.
sorry still unclear. where do I put the Genesis 2 folder?
So I can't have several external runtimes eg genesis hair, genesis dresses etc? in poser?
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
okay, then I will try it. It would be great to have my external runtime structure preserved as i love it.

estherau,
Your system is the best and is following all the rules of modern archive science, such as provenience -all things related to a item should be kept together. It is also possible to have this system with DAZ runtimes from Daz.
But with DSON (DAZ runtimes from Poser) there is a problem. If you attach those runtimes in Poser, it wont work, because the (relative)links in the files thinks they are in the Daz main library.
This is something that the DSON creators have to fix but don't count on it, since they have never understood the need for external runtimes in the first place.
So you(we) have to bite the sour apple and put everything in the main Daz library. The idiocy of it is that DSON not only break the system from Poser, but also from Daz (sic). But at least move this main library out from the system disk(C:) and put it in a safer place.
well i'm on a mac so it's all pretty safe. so you think no point trying that external runtime thing. I may just give it one shot. maybe it would work??

vintorix: I even moved DS's 'My Library' into my Poser runtime and I have no problems! In Windows 7. It takes only one setting to use the runtime in Windows 7 as in XP. But people who don't know where they install their content will better not try that out. It really takes ten seconds and the willingness to read a paragraph that is easy to google...
The important thing is that under 'My Library' you have the DATA directory and a RUNTIME directory as in Poser. But my RUNTIME in DS's 'My Library' is empty! You don't have to put anything in it - it just has to be there for the DSON importer. No idea why. You have to link DS's empty 'My Library' RUNTIME nevertheless in Poser for the same reason - it has to be for DSON and no idea why. But probably because the RUNTIME (yes, even an empty one) correspondends with the really needed DATA folder.
My Poser-CF-Files are in Poser's Runtime. And a few unconverted DUF or DSF files are still in 'My Libary' in DS's folders as PEOPLE etc. It's working, all in one place and of course it does not need DS except you want to convert old stuff.
The DIM can be an effective download manager. However, if you are very accustomed to external runtimes, do not let it auto install. You can disable this by unchecking the install after download box. If you are archiving, make sure the delete after install is also unchecked.
If you don't have DS installed or don't want your DSON content to get mixed into your DS content. Make an external runtime folder. Install the DSON files and the Poser Companion Files to this same runtime. Make sure in the DSON prefs the DSON is pointing to this folder.
I am happy for it to install the DS files to DS. so I guess i put checkboxes on them and say download after install then uncheck that option for my poser stuff. ONly problem is that sometimes it is not clear from the file names when queued in the DIM whether the file is a poser or DS file.
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
I install all of my Genesis stuff to my Studio content directory, including the Poser companion files, and I have that added to Poser Library as an external runtime. That way I only need one copy...

'My Library' is of course permanently linked in Poser whether it is empty or not.
I don't want ALL my stuff as external runtimes. V5/M5 and V6 and all of the base figures are in the main library. Anyhow the external runtimes are working now I don't know why because I have made no changes- other than to install DS 4.6.
I am sorry I gave estherau wrong information.
Aha, i was going to try it anyway.
well I don't need my library to be empty as I do sometimes use DS. funny when I use poser I like to put everything into external runtimes, but when I use DS I sometimes like the default way DS sets it all out.
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
well I have all the poser stuff set out nicely in many external runtimes. the daz studio stuff i have been letting default already so maybe I should just stick to my system for now. I guess I can reinstall all the DS stuff again one day. once DIM is improved so it can queue a whole lot of different orders and just check the DS ones automatically. I don't think it can do that right now though.
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
the external runtime thing isn't working that successfully for me. I got asked to locate textures, and then the character came into my display window not looking morphed. I attempted to apply the change shape pose with no success.

so maybe the only way I am going to get this working is to do what you suggest and install all the daz studio as well as the poser files into the poser external runtime. right now it just isn't working properly at all.
I'll try it.

As I said above, that's essentially what I've done...

Transfering the morphs was much faster in PP2012. However, I upgraded DSON at the same time I installed PP2014, so I'm not sure which caused it...

the clothes are just taking forever. I've even been to the toilet and come back. I wonder if this is going be viable. if it takes forever to do small things I can't really use the figure.

it's been about 20 mins just to load some clothes onto F5 and it still hasn't finished.

It's not an extreme pose and the clothes are made for him specifically.

then it rendered with out anything in the render for some reason. then it crashed poser when I was playing with display settings.

estherau, try to turn subdivision off. (Scripts/DSON Support/Subdivision).
I haven't tried myself because I have not detected any noticeable slowness but then again I have a brand new computer. I read about the tip in a review.
Here is a render of V6 from Poser 2014 in an outfit from Sergio Martinez (xurge). I participated in a seminar he had for a week ago. He said he never use Daz so I guess that none of his figures exist for Genesis.
But I auto fitted the jacked in Daz 4.6 and it fitted really well. Much better than old Genesis! Since the new V6 is in the same size as V4 that makes it easier I suppose. Then I memorized it, saved it and generated the poser CF file. When I opened it in Poser it fitted immediately. Imagine! Sergio could do so with all his figures and he would have an entirely new income, not only from Daz Genesis but also from Poser DSON Genesis.
Now I shall find out the best way to generate one and only one material file!
no I don't think it would be fast enough for me to make freak 5 a main character for my story. I haven't tried V6 but I can't see that she will work any quicker in poser. The main time consuming thing is loading the clothes onto the figure. takes forever in poser on my computer.
I don't know if the external runtime slowed things a bit.
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
I don't think there is any difference between external runtimes and the main runtime. But there is a big difference between Genesis 1 and Genesis 2. I used the product Victoria 4 for Genesis 2 Female so when I load in Poser (most of?) the heavy conversion process is already done. But as there is no Freak for Genesis 2 that does not helps you.
well of course there will be a genesis 6 freak eventually. so you think I should give gen 2 a try. I might as well since I bought V6 anyway.

Is young teen julie meant to look a bit greenish when rendered in poser?
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
I tried a different mat file and that looked better. I didn't think it was the light because freak 5 was in same scene and didn't look green.

nope she did not look like that when I first brought her into poser. I can try again later. but right now off to try V6 and see if it is any faster in poser.

but whilst thinking about that I happened to try and load a PZ3 with F5 into latest Vue 11.5 with april poser SDK and still the same old problem, wrong texture mapping and the ghost in default position due to the subdividing cage showing up. subd for F5 was set to zero - maybe if I try setting subd to 1????

Hi,
I used the daz install manager to download but not install my files. Usually I have each poser thing in a different external runtime eg poser lewanna hair would have it's own runtime, V4 has a separate runtime, V4 chair poses have their own runtime etc.
However, because I think I have no choice, I only have one poser_genesis file.
I put all the poser genesis stuff in this one folder. (wish they could be separate eg poser genesis hair, poser genesis shoes but oh well)
I have DS (which I never use but might need for something one day) and I instlall my daz studio content into there. I double up and mix the DS stuff with my poser external runtimes as well.
Now my question is I have a whole lot of folders that i got with my DM manager. where should i put a folder called IM00011220-02_LewannaHairStudioCF
I have Lewanna hair in an external runtime called Poser_Lewanna_Hair or something like that already.
And another question please...
Can you suggest how I should install the V6 stuff into poser bearing in mind I like multiple external runtimes in poser.
