Subject: Edge Loop tools I need please

Hello to everyone in Blender.  I am finding myself in many problems with modeling complex objects in Blender as of the recent time.  I used to use 3dsmax at our studio in Paris, and now I find myself in need to learn the Blender quickly for modeling projects.  I need to know how to do some of the features I became very close to in 3dsmax world.  If I can beg for the assistance, it will be very useful to me!

First, I ask, is there a manner of specifying spaces between the selections of edge loops of the surfaces? For example of what I want to say, when I was using 3dsmax, it employed a selection characteristic called Dot Loop Selection, which enabled you to specify selection spaces between your edges of the edge loop, like 2 spaces or 4 spaces. Very very useful, but I cannot find this equal feature in the Blender.

As an additional problem, I beg to find an equal to the feature in 3dsmax of the Edge Loop Tools called "Circularize".  With this command, you can convert a selection of edge loop on planar surfaces, and do them in round. For example, if I selected a loop of edges around a square, I could automatically turn the loop of edges to a round form.  I so wish Blender to have this one as it was very much the useful tool in my modeling strategy.

Hello Zandar 

I tried looking up from information I have and not all the tools you use in 3DSMax will translate to Blender tool for tool and I could not find anything similar to Dot loop Selection had to look it up to determine what it does but I know that there is an additional addon for more loop tools with in Blender and that have what you are seeking  just under perhaps another tool name and it maybe already in your version of Blender under addons and needs to be turned on. Here is a link and short video that might help. Loop Tool Addon As to your second request know of nothing at the moment that is simmilar but and I know your transitioning from 3DSmax but this page might help as well granted it is for Maya but Maya and 3DSMax share many similar features and perhaps this can assist as well I hope Modelling in Blender & Maya There are constant improvements and tools becoming available for Blender and our community here has many well informed members and sure some are perhaps already thinking of ways to help answer your questions.

Thank you infinitely of all your help, Lobo3433!  I will examine the information which you provided, and test to find the addon, if there exists one.  It is not all the bad news however, I found many useful characteristics which recall to me of working in 3dsmax, but I know it will not be precisely the same experience.  There are parts too which are better, like the cursor 3D.  At the start, I didn't like it (the cursor) to work, but now fond of it all.  Thank you still for your prompt response!

There is a way to make a selection of vertices on the the same plane or edge loop into a circle. In edit mode, select the vertices you want to include and select Mesh > Transform > To Sphere ( CTRL+ALT+S) and move the mouse away from the center towards the edge of the screen to form them into a sphere or ellipse.

There must be a minimum of 5 verts selected for this to work. As with everything it is view dependant, Front, Side or Top. Any other view will skew the circle.

Touchwood, I tested with the scale transform, and that functions with a certain degree successful, but seems not to be as fast or precise as the characteristic of regularizing a circle edge loop. A much more direct and simple employment to carry out the task would be ideal, since it would produce results imagined. Here in the picture is an example to regularized circle of square edge loop selection like possible in 3dsmax.  I used this function often while I model for a many unique reasons, and results are now to me seem much slower if using scale transform, but so it will be if I must.  It is not important inconvenience, but slows down my course of operation.

There is a circle tool that does what you are talking about. Just hit (space bar) ->(Specials) -> (Loop Tools) -> (circle).  As to the selcetion thing there is a deselect commnd that lets you specify how many to skip. Its is called checker deselect. It is on the selection menu. When you choose it an option tab will pop up on the tool menu that lets you specify the interval to skip. I hope this helps ya.

Thank you infinitely of your assistance. I still have the problem obtaining the tool to function how I wish. I use a cylinder, select a edge in mesh edit mode, ring selected edge, then to Select, Checker Deselect, but that did not function. I use Blender 2.67.  Why I wonder we can not select edge, then put a function number to skip, then choose to ring the edge and skip the ones we wish?

There is a tab on the side tool bar that will pop up when you do the checker select. You set the interval from there.
