THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Gel Resolution?

What is the upper resolution limit for an image applied as a gel in Bryce? Is this officially documented?

If that limit is exceeded, then does Bryce downsample the source? Also, if such a limit exists, then does it vary according to the Bryce version number? I've just googled this -- nothing relevant. A long time ago, I located one "opinion" --  and now I can't even find that!

Not sure exactly what you mean.

When a gel is applied to a light, an image may be loaded by the user to overlay across the gel. That image has an x and y resolution. I think that Bryce is limited in the size of the picture it can use within a gel. That's what I'm asking about. Images can also be applied to objects other than lights and gels. I guess the resolution limit (if one exists) might be the same. Is all this clear?

Oh Light Gels!!  As far as I know Bryce leaves it alone, however, you will probably get hit by longer render times and B7 used to crash if you used high rez textures.

I hope this helps.

What version of Bryce? There are still some un-resolved issues with image importing in V. 7-7.1 pro. The application crashes out etc etc. as far as size limitations I don't think that was ever clear as far as I know, but you really don't need super high rez images for light gels etc etc, "most" of the time 72 dpi or 150 dpi images work great and are less taxing on your CPU.

Do atleast one thing a day that scares the hell outta ya!!

Sorry for the delayed rely. Somehow I missed yours:

I'm using Bryce 7 Pro. I guess the gel size would seem to be more a matter of the total number of pixels rather than the dpi, because there are no inches in virtual space....
