Subject: Importing V4 from Poser 5 into Poser 10

mach ( ) posted Thu, 18 July 2013 at 2:27 PM · edited Sun, 15 December 2024 at 7:17 PM

Is there a way to get content like, V4 and her various characters, into Poser 10 (P10) from Poser 5 with having the  file path refer back to Poser 5? the path is

C:Program filesCurious LabsPoser 5"file name"Runtime libraryPose or figure, etc.By adding a run time library this wayyou have to keep both Poser 5 and 10 on the hard drive-thery're linked.I can't see the added library in poser 10 program files. I can't get th library to load into the P10 "download" folder. Second, let's say I added a library, for example, animals to P10. and I got a new animal character-I can't seeme to put the new character directly into the P10 animal folder-it looks like In have to add it toP 5 source folder and then delete the oldP10 animal folder and import the updated P5 folder. Is there a less cumbersome way to import content. Can you import content fron a desktop folder intoP10-if so how?

Can't you just link your Poser 5 runtime to Poser 10? I've dne that with all my previous runtimes with no problems. My V4 is actually installed in my 10 years old Poser 4 runtime. (of course, she's not 10 years old)  lt works fine in PP2014 :)

Thahat's how I got V4 from P5 into P10.However, I have 26 other runtimes with different content. Also if I uninstall P5 won't the P5 runtime content disappear and crash P 10?I would like the content to reside in P 10 and that P10 shouldn't link back (refer back) to P 5 for V4 and other figures and poses.

Thanks for suggestion.

There is no other way other than to merge the runtimes together into P10.  However, the major problem with transferring older Poser version content into the parent runtime of your current iteration is breaking your Python Script programs.  Some older Python Script will not work in P10 unless they are recompiled.  Good luck with that because some venders have given out rewriting those programs.

Now moving all your content to the Downloads folder is feasible but with 26 external runtimes to merge, the software will suffer from runtime bloat and potentially slow it down.  TG suggestions would be the better option.  I have about 20 runtime folders myself.  If you have models you like to reuse then create Favorite folders for easier access.

Ah yes. Favourite folders I ALWAYS forget about that option. I think I used it in .. hmm Poser 8? but forgot all about it later on.

It's a great way of keeping your most used stuff at hand, even with a zillion runtimes :)

Didn't Phil Cooke have a free script to migrate a previous Poser version's library into Poser 8+?

P5 and P10 can co-exist on the same drive without a problem.  I have everything from P4/PPP through Pro 2014 (I haven't picked up P10 yet) all on the same drive.  I have about 75 standard runtimes as well as working runtimes that I link when needed and remove when I don't.

There are any number of external runtime libraries and managers by Dimension 3D here at Rendo and at CP as well as Semidieu over at RDNA.

Poser comes with a script that will migrate older runtimes.  It should be in the scripts drop down.

Under what heading do I search to find the external runtime libraries and managers  here at  Rendo?

You can search by vendor, under utilities or under software.
