Subject: ezSkin2.0.6 & PP2014 problem

parkdalegardener ( ) posted Tue, 23 July 2013 at 7:47 AM · edited Thu, 13 February 2025 at 5:06 AM

I am running PP2014 sr1 on a PC.

I had no problem with ezSkin2 in PP2012. After installing PP2014 I added my existing runtimes with the add runtime + on the top of the library menu. Same as I do with every other version of Poser that I run on this machine. Everything works fine except ezSkin.

Thinking I may have messed up something I downloaded 2.0.6 and the figure def and cfg files again and re installed everything. No love. No matter what figure I place in my scene ezSkin does not recognize them.

Thinking I must have installed something incorrectly I tried running pp2012 and checked my new instalation. Joy of joy everything is as it should be.

Is there an updated script for PP2014 that I am unaware of? Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a work around for this or am I just doing something wrong?

I moved my EZSkin folder from PP2012 to PP2014 to avoid reinstalling the script.  You will need to reinstall the definitions within EZSkin to get it to work again.  I am not in front of my own computer ATM to verify, but IIRC, the command might be found under file.

A stated above I've re-installed ezSkin2, the cfg files and the def files as well. Poser Pro 2012 sees everything fine and works both before and after a re installation.

PP2014 sees the runtime same as PP2012. PP2014 can access and use all the content in that runtime. The same as pp2012.

PP2012 sees the configs and def files for ezSkin2 when I load a figure. PP2014 does not. The configs and def files were installed with PP2014 running the script. I know they are installed correctly because PP2012 sees them. PP2014 does not.

I'll whipe everything out again and re install ezSkin2 and the defs and cfgs, try again as per your suggestion, and hope for the best; but I don't see that as being any different than what I already have done. Hope it works.

Yeah, besides moving the runtime files from PP2012 to 2014, I also had to go into the app data and move the definition files. You can find them here on a PC...

C:Users[[[YOUR USERNAME]]]AppDataRoamingPoser Pro9

There are a couple of EZSkin2 files there to copy to:

C:Users[[[YOUR USERNAME]]]AppDataRoamingPoser Pro10

(Note: You'll need to replace [[[YOUR USERNAME]]] with whatever your Windows login username is)

BTW, AppData by default is a hidden folder so you may have to unhide it to view it. To do so, go to Windows Explorer. At the top menu, choose "Tools", "Folder Options", Then choose the "View" Tab, and select "Show Hidden Files, Folders and Tabs". Do your copying and then go back and hide these when you're done. This will keep you from inadvertently deleting something hidden that's important.

If you've done all that, you'll need to do what hborre suggests and initialize the definitions within EZ Skin. One of the big buttons in EZSkin2 will let you do that.

Thanks this worked for me. It explains why 2012 continues to see the configs when pp2014 didn't.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else has had this problem.

In testing, Installing EZSkin and importing the figure definitions has worked fine - it should not be necessary to resort to copying files from the %appdata% folder.

If this is not a one off and other people are experiencing the same issue then I'd like to fix it, and to do that I'd like the help of someone who can replicate the problem.

Cheers,
Snarly

I had the same problem with EZSkin not finding the definition files in PP-2014.

Not such a big problem as I usually have to copy/paste my modified skin shaders manually anyway and build my own material files.

I've only tried EZskin a couple of times, and each time it did come up with "unknown figure" or something like that. But it was some of the more odd figures in my runtime so I thought that was just because they weren't supportet. Which may still be the cause. But I never had EZskin prior to PP2014, so in my case it's definitely not because it's installed "somewhere else" :)

When I get home from work today, I'll try it with V4 and see what it says :)

Do you mean after attempting to import the definition files? EZSkin will not find the definition files imported using an earlier version of Poser. I just need to be clear that this problem manifests after attempting the import...

Do you mean after attempting to import the definition files?

Yes.

I installed PP-2014 and (re-)installed EZskin and there were no definition files including the custom made ones I already made for my hybrid figures. (They have new object names and custom material zones)

Had to manually copy and paste in the appData but even then only the "default" definitions showed up. (V2,V3,V4,M2...etc)

As I said, not such a big problem as I'm constantly tweaking shaders so I have to use my own material files instead of EZSkin anyway.

As a heads-up, it's easy to add definitions for another figure not already defined by EZSkin2. You can either do it via the script itself or if you like to type in Notepad better, you can open the definitions file and add the definition there. Just find a figure similar to the one you're creating that's already been defined. Change the material zones to match your figure. It's pretty straightforward.

I just did this for Dawn. I would be happy to post her definition here but I'm not sure if that breaks the NDA.

OK home at last.. I'm sure I've done something wrong during the install, because.. well surely V4 is supported. But this is the message I get...

Have you clicked the 3rd button from the left and chosen the cfg file?

It sorta happened with me, only with the effects.

This is a clean Win7 x64 install, with Poser Pro 2014 SR2.  Installed into the recommended directory, imported the figure definitions.  That part worked fine.

The special skin effects didn't work, even pointing to the folder on my C drive.  Copying to the appdata folder worked.

Tip for Winders users: %appdata% will take you straight to your appdataroaming folder.

at the time I thought that looking for the files on my drive and moving them over to the new version of Poser was a pain in the ass so I just re-installed from a fresh copy...easy
