Subject: I've lost my X, Y and Z directional tool

Miss B ( ) posted Thu, 08 August 2013 at 10:27 PM · edited Mon, 18 November 2024 at 9:35 PM

I first noticed it last night while trying to upwrap, but then I also saw it in the regular Edit/Object modes this evening.  I selected a vert and it lit up as selected, but I had no way of moving it.

OK, I just realized why I wasn't seeing it in Edit/Object modes, so that's now fixed, but I don't have that option in the UVImage Editor window.  How do I get it back there as well?

I'm not new to Blender, and this is the first time I've come across this, so I feel I must've done something really stupid like clicked an option and didn't realize it.

Thanks in advance for any insight as to what I did wrong.

i just checked in 3 versions form 2.49 to 2.63 and in the UV/Image editor there isnt one

there hasnt been one that i remember

since the vert can only be moved on 2 of the 3 axis it doesnt need to be there so you didnt mess anything up or do something wrong

it simply isnt there

I also checked with versions 2.63 2.65 2.67 and the current version 2.68 and as unbroken-fighter says it is not there and also believe you have not messed anything up at all

OK, I really feel stupid.  I just realized after reading both your responses that I used "G" to grab the vert(s) to move them.  :headdesk:  It's been a while since I've played in Blender, and especially in the UVImage Editor, and I totally forgot that was the only way to move anything in that view.

I've been using Blender since version 2.49, so I'm really feeling like a n00b at the moment.  It's tough getting old(er).  ~sigh~  Thanks both of you for responding.

Thanks again.

I so know the feeling, MissB (forgetfulness)... particularly those second-nature things I've been doing for ages, and then, suddenly, I'm like "wait, how was that, again???". You can [G]rab and [S]cale and constrain with [X] or [Y]... the 'y' bit is a bit weird, perhaps, because sometimes your object has a 'z' value (tall) and 'x' value (wide) but 'y' is always the up-and-down on the uv-mapper.

Still getting my head around some of the finer points of UV-mapping - it IS an amazing tool, really! One of the best things I like is that you can select bits of your mesh to UV map, leaving other bits for another mapping, which gives the tool enormous flexibility.

I know Robyn, and the older I get, the worse it gets.  I can be in the middle of a conversation with someone on a topic I know very well, and all of a sudden I can't remember the name of something that I'm trying to inform the person about.

I suppose I could blame it on the fact I'm going to hit my 7th decade in October, but I try to keep the mind active every day so I can slow down the aging of my mental processes, but there's just so much you can do, if you know what I mean.
