Subject: How to reduce SPAM from Renderosity

UHF ( ) posted Fri, 26 July 2013 at 11:06 AM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 7:40 PM

I'm seriously struggling with the amount of SPAM I'm receiving from Renderosity.

There's two parts to this.

First... anything on my wishlist seems to trigger the occasional SPAM. (Act now and save!  We'll even thrown in a kitchen sink!)  If I have a large wishlist, well, I get a lot of SPAM.  Given that I don't want SPAM, my inclination is to keep less products in the wishlist.

Second... my Prime ran out.  I got no notice before this happened.  Now that its gone, I'm getting hounded.  "Please resign!  We'll even give you a steep discount!"  A) a count down before expiry would have been helpful.  B) I let it lapse for a reason.

I really want a way to control the junk mail.  At this rate my only cure is to leave Renderosity.

UHF,

I'll talk to the techs regarding the spam and see what they suggest and what's going on

As for the Prime issue, on your MY ACCOUNT page there is a whole page dedicated to your prime called PRIME SUMMARY this page tells you the expiration date of your membership as well as a summary of the orders you've placed and how much you've saved with your membership. The promotions going out during our Prime anniversary month are incentives to rejoin if you haven't already that a large majority have taken advantage since we offered a special coupon on top of the prime being 50% off . We want to offer this extra incentive just in case the cost is an issue during these difficult times as it is with a lot of folks. It's, of course, your choice to renew or not but we do want to offer special deals to give all past prime members the chance to get the best deal possible and save in the future by having the membership and enjoying the Top Seller products for 3.50 that are submitted to the Prime.

Thank you and have a nice weekend

Stacey

Spam on e-mail addresses given here has been a problem for years. And I don't mean aggressive/annoying marketing from Renderosity vendors, I mean spam about personality-enlarging devices, little blue pills and counterfeit luxury items. I've changed my mail address (only used here, obviously) a couple times, the problem started again some weeks later.  :-/

I solved the problem in an easy and efficient way: I set up a filtering domain, which only accepts mail from renderosity.com (and subdomains). Any mail sent to that filtering domain not originating from the Renderosity domain goes straight to dev/nul... Since I use this, I get all my purchase confirmations, newsletters and all the relevant stuff, but nothing else...

Now I admit most people can't do this, but their mail client most likely can create a filtering rule like "if it arrives at my Renderosity account mail and is not originating from Renderosity - waste it!". Of course it means you only use that specific mail address here, but anybody halfway internet-savvy uses site-specific mail addresses (just in case they get spammed silly), don't you?

As far as SPAM from Rendo...seriously! 3, 4 times a day. It used to be twice a week, now it's every day, multiple times a day. There are some I don't mind getting, but others are just blatant pushy spam---things not on my wishlist and things I have no interest in.

Is there ANY way to go back to twice a week mailing and not all these "vendor" generated emails? I'm not trying to be a bitch, I'm just trying to get some work done and it's hard when you and DAZ both have decided to ramp your assault of our email boxes.

Between you and everything else I'm getting? I get around 300 emails a day, easy. It takes me hours to sort through them. And you definitely aren't helping. I don't want to stop all mailings, but I may have to if this continues.

Filtering. See my post just above yours...

Spammers won't go away anytime soon, for email doesn't cost them a cent (it costs you, in time lost to sift through it, but time is money, for you), so even if there is 0.1% of those spammed who respond, it's a 100% gain for the spammers. That's why they won't stop, ever, and no amount of pleading will help. Spam = money for them.

So your only way out of spam is filtering.

300 emails a day? I dare think about 250 of them are unwanted. I had the same problem in the beginning, when I was still young and naive, but those times are long past... I now generally ony receive 2-3 spam messages a month, all this thanks to a series of easy tricks I'm willing to explain to whoever is tired of seeing his/her mailbox overflowing with uncalled-for messages. Just ask. No strings attached, I'm not selling stuff! I just can so relate to people who are tired of seeing their mailbox becoming a dump.

RTY: This is junk mail from Renderosity.

gypsyangel ( ) posted Mon, 19 August 2013 at 7:33 PM

Well then you would bet wrong. And I'm far cry from young and naive. So you're striking out all over the place. Most of those have to do with things I'm involved in. Some come from my Usenet groups. Others to do with 3D. My concern is people adding to it with mail I did not ask for, but will have to opt out of that which I did want in order to stem the flow.

Quote - RTY: This is junk mail from Renderosity.

Yes, I know. Spam on my Renderosity email accounts (only given to Renderosity), is the reason I spent some money and built a Renderosity mail filtering site in the first place (see my post further up). And I don't only mean spam from Renderosity vendors trying to make me buy stuff, I also mean mails peddling fake pharma and counterfeit luxury objects (never knew if it was an accident or a feature, but it happened on two different accounts)

Now I only receive purchese confirmations and newsletters. Nothing more.

Am I? Well sorry. I though I could help. If I can't help you, feel free to disregard.

Isn't that a definition of spam? And do you really think "opting out" is possible? (But then again, as I already said, feel free to disregard what I say. After all you're in control, aren't you.)

Ummm..YES. I am in control of the mail I get from the Renderosity Market Place. If I stop all mail, I am relatively certain they will not darken my mail box again. I was not referencing spam I get from out of country pharmacies or learn to speak Finnish classes. I rarely see those. They are not my concern here. What I receive from Renderosity is. That is the only thing they have control of which is why I am contacting them here.  It would be pointless for me to come in here complaining about spam they have no control over. End of debate.
