Subject: Updated helper apps for Mac Poser

dullboy ( ) posted Tue, 27 August 2013 at 9:59 AM · edited Wed, 15 January 2025 at 1:13 AM

I have an old program from 2002 that worked with Mac OS X 10.5 and earlier called Thumbnailer v1.1. I have newer computers that will only run Mac OS X 10.7.x and higher, so I can no longer run that version of Thumbnailer and I don't know where to get an updated version. I have done the usual types of Google searches to no avail. So, I am wondering is there another program with the same feature that will work on Mac OS X 10.7.x and later?

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/thumbnailer/id463174285?mt=12 is that what you were looking for ?

There are lots of windows apps that will generate thumbnails but I am not sure what would run on a mac.

@dullboy:

Do you mean the program that would put a thumbnail into the cr2's, pz2 etc so that you'd get a thumbnail in the library of Poser 4 on the mac?

Quoting from the ReadMe:

"ThumbNailer inserts a graphics file into the thumbnail picture of a Poser file, so that it will be visible within the Poser program.  This allows you to make custom graphic and include it in the file, without resorting to complicated steps or chancy procedures with ResEdit.  It also allows Poser users who do not have the Pro Pack to use Poser files that have been supplied with PNG files instead of RSR files; simply convert the whole folder of such files, and Poser will now show the PNG image in the thumbnail."

Usually, if an installer loads the files without thumbnails, they were prepped initially for Poser 4. Under older versions of Poser (Pre-Poser 8) sometimes if you loaded the directory, Poser woud create the thumbnails on the fly, if it didn't, Thumbnailer would.

Thumbnailer was a classic program that would run using Mac OS X's carbon libraries. When Mac OS X 10.6 came out, the carbon libraries were removed and Thumnailer would no longer run.

I have multiple different folders full of .cr2s and .pz2s, etc. that don't have thumbnails. I could load the directories in current versions of Poser and save thumbnails out individually, but if something like Thumbnailer existed that could run in Mac OS X 10.6.x or later, I could do it in batch much faster. That's the basis of my search.

poser 4 used an image format of .rsr which later versions would use or convert. You need then an rsr to png format converter that will run on a mac.

There used to be a program McPBrowser in the PzMacTools package by fmorgan here in the marketplace. Among other things it can extract a png from a cr2, pz2 etc. I don't know if it is Carbon or Cocoa though.

Thumbnailer seems to run OK on my mac with 10.6.8, but I have Rosetta installed.
