The site where I'm told to download pose2lux or the LuxRenderer for poser is down. I just got reaity 3 and I can't use it. Anyone know where else I can download it?

If you have Reality you don't need pose2lux. Just download LuxRender and you are all set.

Cheers.

Do you have a link? I'm not sure what I have to download.

Got it stand alone.

play fair. options are always a good idea in any undertaking.

This is absolutely not a matter of fairness. The LuxRender page is confusing in the way it describes that people need to download an additional plugin to use Lux.

Reality users don't need to install anything else but Lux. That was a correct and fair statement.

All the best.

hi , you can download it from the official luxrender forum.

I had the same problems with reality so i decided to patch pose2lux by myself and keep it free for all.

I updated it to work with poser2014 added the new filters, new materials like the cloth material and a lot of other stuff:

http://www.luxrender.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=10341

a recent version of luxrender is required for all the features to work.

This is good news, cisi.  You might want to put it in its own thread....

Snarlygribbly here, original author of Pose2Lux.

This is great news - it's so good to see someone picking up the Pose2Lux baton and running with it :-)

Please keep everyone here posted as to any future enhancements!

A few points:

The Pose2Lux.com site does not belong to me and I have no control over its availability. I did contribute material to the site, but that was all.

I am still distributing Pose2Lux at my own site (http://snarlygribbly.org/3d/forum). We should probably avoid end user confusion by collaborating. Of course, that's optional - you can pretty much do whatever you want with Pose2Lux - but for the sake of Pose2Lux users it might be nice to avoid any confusion from having multiple sources. Incidentally, the download at my site is also Poser 2014 compatible (but doesn't have any of the other enhancements you've made)

Would you mind if I hosted your enhanced version on my site?

Cheers,

Snarly

hi nice to here from the "father" of the software :-D

i have to say it is really cleanly coded. Im coming mainly from php programming but i found it very easy to expand the software even without any python knowledge.

i would be very happy if you would host my version. Also if you see that i have done things wrongly (the features work but maybe from a coding point of view) feel free to tell me/correct them etc etc.

i fully agree, that it is best if we dont  have multiple sources around, thats just confusing.

And (to all) if someone knows how to implemente the new binary hair format into the exporter (converting poser hiar to the opensource binary format luxrender is unsing since some releases) that would be a great addon for pose2lux. Luxrender is moving on really quickly this days.

regards to all,

changelog 0.9.4:

  • adding a texture to the specular node in poser will allow you to select that texture as Ks(specularity) in materials like glossy or glossytransluscent ot get more realism
the poser specular color defines the strength of the texture, so white will be a strong specular effect while gray or black less
    finally textures attached to:
    diffuse color
    specular color
    bump
    displacement
    transparency
will be usable in the pose2lux exporter

  • backface multibounce option(glossytransluscent) now is deselectable. So we dont get the warning when luxrender parses the config. (previously the checkbox was so much right that it got out of bound and was not visible but always checked).

  • some minor scaling changes for options like convergence step

  • possibility to not only use the slider but also input a value directly for halt threshold and halt spp

downloadable as always in the lux forum:

Since the Pose2Lux.com site is down is there anywhere to learn more about this great program. I have read the Draft docs but I am still muddeling through how Lux handles the conversion for the different items in the poser material settings.

Thanks for the work you two have done I am getting some excelent renders that I could only wish for from Poser!

hi , if you plan to use it more "professionally" i would suggest to start using custom materials.

The conversion from poser to lux is based on "impressions" i or the original coder had of how a material translates best to a lux material.

Some materials i find good is f.e. the latex material (generic latex). It takes over from posr bump map and texture. Its good for every kind of plastic or iron material with texture (a glossy material).

The human eye materials like sclera cornea tear etc are working well.

Also the SSS skin material. But if you need it to be moer glossy or less you already have to go for a custom one.

Also the gemstones and galsses are realistic.

The metal materials are also good, but going custom you could make it less or more reflective etc etc.

going custom you will need to understand how materials in lux work.

You can find them here with an explanation of their settings:

http://www.luxrender.net/wiki/LuxRender_Materials

so every material you see in the gui finally translates to one of thes with different settings.(only the cloth material description is missing).
