Subject: transfering morphs w/o morph manager

shante ( ) posted Mon, 09 September 2013 at 8:03 PM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 10:42 PM

I am trying to add new morphs to the old Zygote Centaur (why does than darn character always on my mind give so much trouble?!)  from a .Cr2 file(s) created during the time at DAZ I was trying to get more support for the figure.

I am on a Mac and hate going through the churner getting Morph manager like app to work on it and was wondering if there was another way to move the morph(s) over.

or if there is anyone out there who owns the Zygote Centaur on a PC who would be willing to transfer these morphs and send the figure back to me complete, I would appreciate it.

I would suggest making a PMD with the new morphs and inject those into the centaur. Poser makes the pmd when you have it switched on (when you save the PZ3) and a pmd injector file is easy to make. You have P7 (IIRC?) so PMDs would work. And afaik they work the same on a mac... (fingers crossed for that last bit, I know absolutely nothing about macs)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.

If you have poser 2014, Figures - Copy Morphs From....

I have had a lot of success with it.

I turned PMD off at the suggestion of many users. Called it BAAAAD!

When I did i I rejected ever having used it because all the files and custome characters I want to use now keep asking for some obj file. When I click cancel Poser opens a new field. A casual browsing of the Poser7 app folder and I found all the .obj files floating around for ALL the custom figures I was trying to re-use. I figured it out  that it was the PMD file missing (I deleted them all too big to keep I thought...what a fool...... that disallowed me to reopen these files again in Poser. I either deal with the hassle of going to where they are nestled and point the Pz3 to it so I can open the figure/file it is in or I just go back and recreate a new one w/o the PMD link and save it as a regular .Pz3 file again. I just look for the file extension now and if it is...I think....Pzz or something like that I can expect a real hassle.

So how do you inject the .pmd into the new file?

Gotta forgive me I am brain damaged when it comes to all this complex stuff.  :(

You can turn on 'Use external binary morph targets' temporally, just whilst you save the figure (with a DIFFERENT NAME) to generate the PMD, then immediately turn it off again.

Nerd3D has a tutorial on making PMD injections on his site.

Hi Les

I call the new injections I need to transfer over to the main item "morph" or some stupid name open the original character and..........How do I transfer the morph over? Is it the same as an object morph injection?

Addendum:

I did read...part of ...the tutorial Les. I got about half way through to where I find I have to go into the text with a text editor and read on for a bit and my eyes crossed. Have no idea about writing code and all that seemed way over my head. I went back and re-read it and got a panick attack preamble. Gave up. I guess so there is no easy way. Maybe I will have to go back and find all the stuff i need to install on my Mac to try and use MorphManager again?!  :(

What version of OSX are you using? And if you're using one of the intel Macs, you can just download a copy of WINE and run Morph Manager with that.

Yes, thanks. I got all that stuff some time ago but was hoping for a simpler solution using what is already installed in the system. Ihate installing and de-installing stuff. But, that seems to be my only option left so again thanks.

Well, it doesn't get much simpler. Wine is free, so just unzip it and run it. Then start Morph Manager like any other app. I wish I'd know it wa that simple a few years ago when I bought Morphing Clothes by accident and asked for a refund.

If all else fails, export the morphs individually as obj files from the figure that has them (File >Export > Wavefront OBJ). In the export options, select only  'As morph target'. Then wiith the figure that needs the morphs selected, select the body part the needs to be morphed, and import the obj files (Object > Load Morph Target). It can be a slow method if you have a lot of morphs to transfer, but it's simple, and all done within Poser.

You can then save the figure (with a new name so as not to overwrite the original), so that all the morphs will be in the figure the next time you load it.

Hi Les

A thought to fill the heart. I am pretty used to SLOWWW and METICULOUSSSSS soimporting obj files is still within my mental incapacity since it was the first thing i did learn in Poser 4 when i was a bit fresher. I knew there was a way to do it from within Poser but......forgot!  Thanks.
