Subject: Sketchup and Vue

Now that Timble owns the rights to Sketchup, Timble is no longer allows the use of the free version of Sketchup for commerical projects....

How are my fellow Vue users now getting the free content from Google Warehouse (3D Warehouse) into Vue?

Prior I was using the free version of Sketchup and a ruby script which exported to an obj. It is my understanding to continue this practise would be frowned upon by Timble...

I know Bonzai3D is an alternative but I was looking for a free or open-source alternative...

Should I assume no one else uses sketchup models in their Vue renderings?

I do the same as you, i.e. I use the ruby script to export in object format. Sketchup has been very useful in finding certain models that I couldn't locate elsewhere. I was not aware of the Timble takeover, but will certainly check it out.  I don't know that it will be a problem for me anyway since I don't do commercial projects.  Have you tried the Sketchup plugin available at Cornucopia 3D? It allows you to save Sketchup models in Vue's vob format.

I was under the impression that the free version of Trimble's Sketchup does not support plugins.... Anyone know?

I use a Google version of SketchUp with Vue.  I see no need to update it to the newer brand.  I try not to use SketchUp models people post on the web.  Too much hassle.  Just like I don't use other people's OBJ files from ShareCG if I can help it.
