Subject: Library Managers ?

Hey Guy's

I am a newbie 4 or 5 months experience, I'm running Poser 9 SR 3.1 on an Imac OS 10.7.5 Intel Core i5 2.5 Ghz. I have so many poses for V4, I spend more time looking for the right pose than I do with a scene. So the question is do I buy one of the library managers or is there an easy way to look through the hundreds of runtimes to find the pose I want. Any idea's would be appreciated.

The native Poser "Favorites" is very good and the most reliable solution I've found so far.  I've tried a couple different library substitutes and had to reject them all, at least for the library function.  One that I liked in particular seemed to have a hard limit on the number of files or items and that didn't work for me at all since I just use one big runtime.  For all practical purposes it was a brick.

I use Shaderworks Library Manager 2.6 with my  Poser Pro 2012, it has some nice featues that make my life easier.. it takes a while to build the database, but you rarely have to rebuild the entire thing.

The native library manager in PPro 2012 is pretty decent on its own, though, once you figure out how to make the best of it.

Ihave well over 30GB of Poser content (!!), so a manager is a necessity.. plus it has some neat features for loading only part of a pose (for example).  I do have seven runtimes, so I'm not sure if there's a file-count limit.

It's sure not necessary, but it's nice.

Library Manager was the one I liked but it couldn't handle big runtimes at the time, maybe version 2.4?  Don't remember.  Has that been fixed?  I still love Library Manager for installing content on a new comp which I've had to do twice in the last couple weeks.  If it can handle big runtimes now I'll start using it for library functions as well.

I was thinking about that one, I know wht you mean my external runtime is at almost 70GB, like I said,  spending too much time looking, not creating. Thanks for the advice.

I have not found a limit with either the native library or shaderworks.  I have just under 300 GB in 8 runtimes.

Hmm.  My runtime is about 100g, but in one runtime.  Maybe I'll give it another go.  I exchanged several emails with the vendor before though and he couldn't propose a fix at the time.

I buy and or create my own poses which I save off and have more then I can count also. But don't be afraid to break the install packaged up into sub folder like sitting, standing, everyday, pin-up, whatever categories you are looking for and as stated above favorites in the native Poser Lib is your friend. I move poses around all the time in my runtime into categories that make since for what I am looking for. Very rarely are they in their original installed folder.

I "think" the problem for me in Library Manager 2.4 was the hard limit of 900 under 'Options, Data Bindings, Number of Items'.  But it made Library Manager useless for me as a Poser library substitute.  Maybe it would be fine if I broke things down in to a bunch of different runtimes, but I don't want to do that.  The native Poser library doesn't seem to have any limitations like that, at least not that I've run in to.

I absolutely love Library Manager for mass installation of zipped content though.  And it's probably a fine library substitute if you can avoid bumping your head on that hard cap of 900 data bindings.

Once I get home tonight, I'll look and see if V2.6 has a higher data binding limit - I think my largest single runtime is about 12-14GB.. I'll look into it this eve and post what I discover.

Yeah - I forgot to post (red face).  Maybe someone shoud contact Shaderworks about allowing that to be increased?

Ok, my largest runtime is my Renderosity one (heh), it's 56.8GB (!!) with 165,300 files (!!).

Metadata scanning and building for the library manager is pretty slow, but given the huge amount of stuff I have, it's not too surprising.

I have 8 different runtimes now, though.  Hmmph.
