Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 02 4:55 pm)
Odd.. You're the third person to post abou tthis issue. Something must be wrong somewhere. McGyver got his to work by disconnecting the internet. Try that. IF that helps, it must somehow be something on SM's side...
My Poser is busy rendering so I cant' check if I'm affected too.

Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
This happened to me when I accepted an Adobe air update some time back. I could never get it resolved and ended up going back to a restore point before the Adobe update. I have not allowed any updates to Adobe air since.

I wonder if those with the problem all uses the floating library? I don't and my Poser seems to be working fine. I've updated Adobe Air every time it has told me to do so.

"Oh - the manual says that? I have never read the manual - this must be why."A friend of me has the same issue with her Mac.
She try everything, unconnect, connct, clean, uninstall...install clean, nothing help.
This is really strange.

Quote - Latest Flash and PPro 2014 SR 2.2... no issues here... I float my Library on a 64-bit PC running Win7 Pro.
Same here, W8 PP2014 and I try 2012 too, No issues.

My Friend told me the One Mac which has the same issues was not updated with Flash etc..since months.
She has on this Mac no Internet connection. From time to time she plug it for updates, but this does happens a few month ago at last.

I just did a few tests and I have tracked down one issue and it looks to be with Flash. There is a new update and once that is installed the Poser 8 library tries to open but only opens part way. I don't use Air so I don't think that has anything to do with my issue at least. Running more tests. Why it works in Poser 10 and not in Poser 8 leads me to believe that there is something different in the Poser editions, so what is different in Poser 10 then 8 concerning Flash. Happens on both 32 bit and 64 bit
I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. Poser9, XP. I had used a texture set that used a python (don't want to say which texture, because I don't want to attach any blame to the creator). Thought something about that python set up might have screwed up something in the P9 ini file. Anyway, since i still have P7 and P8 on my computer (just in case :D), I wanted to see if this "bug" affected P8. Nope. The library window opened fine. So, I again went to P9 (insanity: doing something over and over again, expecting a different, desired outcome). And, surprise of surprises, the library opened in P9. Not crazy after all.
Perhaps something in P8's working library "awakened" P9's library...haven't a clue. So, if you still have P8 on your machines, give it a shot...
All I have to say is, that for so many to have this problem, it could be attached to some type of updated program that Poser uses...??
Very perplexing - I've experienced the exact same problem beginning yesterday Sept 25. Poser 8 was working fine the day before. I have automatic updates disabled - I only allow updates after I am notified - so I am pretty sure nothing had changed overnight.
Poser 8 fires up after a delay and with no library. I can load previous scenes - but still no library.
I uploaded an archived backup version of my Poser 8 folder and have the same problem.
I removed my preference files and had Poser 8 regenerate new ones and have the same problem.
Strangest of all - I have another backup copy on a "twin computer" running the same operating system (XP SP3) and same versions of Explorer and Adobe flash - and Poser 8 starts up without any problem - which suggests that it isn't an Explorer or Flash issue.
Any thoughts?
Cool - I'll keep an eye on the forum.
Nice to have a collective of minds and fingers working on a very weird problem.
One last data point - I also have a copy of Poser 7 on the same computer (just in case of goofy situations like this one) - and it works fine. I don't know if Poser 7 and 8 use similar library mechanisms, that is whether they both rely on Explorer and Flash - so I don't know if this is relevant.
I have that too.
I just ran into the same problem yesterday when I tried to run PoserPro2010 on my older Mac.
This mac has not updated Flash nor IE programs or anything of the like in a few months. In fact, nothing has changed for a few months. . . but suddenly the Library pallette is empty.
And yes, turning off the internet or network connection before starting Poser, restores the Library pallete to full function.
I have contacted Smith M with an incident report. Something appears to have changed with Poser's connection to the internet or there is some date limited preference that has expired.
Very weird. Keep digging . . . at some point it would be nice to be able to run the internet on this machine again.
Best,
PT Studios
The problem appears to be the Flash file that is the actual Library interface, LSMGUI.swf, being broken by a new version of Flash. I tried replacing the one in Poser 8 with the one from PP2012 and it works fine, so hopefully SM will release an update for those who don't have PP2012 handy...

The Wisdom of bagginsbill:
"Oh - the manual says that? I have never read the manual - this must be why."Nice work!
I confirm that my Poser 8 loads fine when the internet is disabled.
I loaded a copy of LSMGUI.swf from my backup copy and it does not work - so it is probably not a matter of it being damaged as much as it is not working with something new from Adobe.
I have no idea why Poser 8 on my twin machine still works - other than even though both machines have identical versions of IE and Flash running - they have different startup routines - and maybe a startup program is gumming up the works.
I look forward to the fix from SM - or at least making LSMGUI.swf from Poser 10 available to the rest of us who don't have that file available.
Do you think they could make the file available for those of us who are using PP 2010? I can't even re-install anything because of a freak problem with my dvd drive (know the solution, scared to play with the registration files).

Okay ... I don't have older versions of Poser loaded on this system ... so ... I just switched off my wi-fi, loaded Poser, clicked ok on the error message in the library pop up and everything is fine. I turned the wi-fi back on. It's a silly fix, but for now as long as Poser works I'm good with it.
Tnank you all. I hope you all have Poser up and running as well.

― Marcus Aurelius,
I think that fix will work for some but not all. I'm running an older Mac and new Flash versions just won't run. I'm wondering if SM can identify where the Library is calling out too, and getting into trouble.
If you can follow the logic, nothing has changed internally on my machine (no new flash, no new IE versions . . nothing) and now suddenly I have no libraries. So the internal communication was working fine. The library can find every Runtime and my various drives. I suspect the libraries attempt a communication with content paradise and "boom" goes my Library as one version of Flash fails to communicate with another version
A fix for all those that have that kind of problem, would be to find where that line of code is and have the software call my own machine or something it can communicate with.
Does that make any sense?

Another data point.
Following PTStudios' post, I disable my internet connection (physically unplugged the cable from the router), started Poser 8 (Poser loaded the library with no problems), I reconnected the cable, and everything was fine. I could access the internet and Poser was happy. I closed Poser and went on with my business.
Later on - with the internet connection still active, I started Poser and it loaded the library - it appears the above sequence "reset" something in Poser so that it now loads the library (at least on my machine). I have been able to repeat this so if appears that it isn't a fluke.
What I haven't done yet is power cycle the computer to see if the problem stays fixed.

It started this morning, my library is missing when I open poser. I have updated my flash, but nothing. I can load scenes but can't get my library to open....any help would greatly be appreciated.
