Hi All.. as you all know I run OMNI 3D. I spend hours searching down new and old poser resources for everyone to have a quick reference to download sites you might not find quickly at the forums. I do this because I enjoy poser and wanted to give something back that really would help people and since my bookmarks are filled with links i figured to share them. Anyway.. Recently while reviewing sites that link to Omni or the recently defunct Anase (which will return soon) i found a link to a site with more links... cool i thought until i really LOOKED at the page. It was very familiar.. extremely familiar.. Of course upon closer examination I realized this page was mine.. the setup and HTML coding was mine. as well as the text and links which represent about 400 hours surfing and research. This page is taken from my OMNI 3D site all the person did was take the html i wrote and added his navigation and header and footer and a background. Still the table setup and links and comments are mine. I wrote the person and asked him to either remove it or give me credit.. to date he has done neither though he wrote to say he was very sorry and would add credit to me.. he hasn't still.. I have researched it on the net and found out that it is still my work regardless of what is added to it since the basic coding of the page hasn't changed. I have tried to reason with the owner of the site but he feels it is not theft.. i am getting really tired of having to fight for my rights on my work.. Compare.. his page : http://roughkut.com/poser4-1.html and my page http://poserunderground.virtualave.net/poser/posds.html

when i went to have a look (http://roughkut.com/poser4-1.html my internet security prompted me with this warning: Security Alert! Attempt to connect to local computer using the Backdoor/Subseven trojan was blocked. This was from Norton Internet Security. I'm guessing this guy has a stealth embedded trojan with reg write capabilities. Not sure but it was a firewall rule, broken.

My sympathies, Storm. This kind of thing happens far too often these days. Seems Poser resources are gaining in value, which is a compliment, of course, but not when one's hard work in the field is stolen. The best thing to do is usually to contact the offender's service provider. You might want to try that.

Bookmarked your page Storm. Couldn't believe that list. I have a ton of bookmarks that are all a mess... but still lots you had I didn't. Really appreciate this gathering of info in one spot. Sorry bout the person that took your hard work.

It's a shame someone would do that. I guess for some people, anything goes. I did notice that the roughkut site at least didn't pop up a bunch of new windows, which can not be said about yours. I HATE pop-ups!

Stormrage, I too have spent hundreds of hours gathering information for my Resources section of MalePoser.com, and have suffered similar abuse by people who think that everything on the internet is free to use. It is a sad situation, but not likely to change. BTW, you don't seem to have a link to maleposer.com - so I invite you to check it out, and hope to be in your next update :) Ronstuff

Look at the great line at the bottom of this site: <<If you view this page on "NutScrape" then you suck just as much as it does. Oh yeah and don't like, steal anything or I can legally have your ISP terminate your service. :-)>> The gall of some people!

hmatienzo, Does the above comment relate to MalePoser or are you referring to another site? I think maybe your HTML comments are not visible

MaterialForge ( ) posted Sat, 22 September 2001 at 2:44 PM

Sorry to hear about that, Stormrage. I'd definitely contact their ISP at the very least. Good luck with the situation in any event.

That's too bad Stormrage, sorry to hear it. You know there are all kinds of scipts, php, cgi, etc that might help with this kind of problem. I found a script that might be usefull to you, check it out. Looks like it encrypts the html so the browser reads it properly but makes it difficult for someone to copy/paste and use for themselves. Hope this helps. Jazzmin

Ronstuff---AAARGH!!! Nooo, never malePoser, I love that site, LOL! I had been trying to show something from the site in question... here it is again: If you view this page on "NutScrape" then you suck just as much as it does. Oh yeah and don't like, steal anything or I can legally have your ISP terminate your service. :-)

LOL!!! ROFL!! The guy actually has the nerve to threaten people who steal HIS code?? Stormrage... maybe you should copy HIS code and put it on your page!

Crescent ( ) posted Sat, 22 September 2001 at 4:51 PM

Hey, thanks for putting me in, and on the top! I'll add a link to you on my links page today. If you don't mind, could you rename me to: Fallen City instead of Fallencity? Thanks again!

MaterialForge ( ) posted Sat, 22 September 2001 at 4:56 PM

BTW, been perusing your links on that page Stormrage. Quite an awesome collection there! After looking at his page as well, (and the source on both your and his) there's no question he ripped you off. Unbelievable. Well, good luck with it, I think you've got a lot of support here should his ISP require "witnesses" of a sort! -silver

hmm - well Stormrage ... One thing is really funny. If you allow me to say this most of us are well familiar with the most sites around related to Poser ... So I don't see any sense in what this guy is doing ... There is simply no sense in copying a better known site and giving it away as my work ... because noone will later on visit his site ... Maybe someone should make this clear to that guy ... What is so funny in running websites nowadays ... finally the days you can make money with websites is over ... I do understand you're angry about him (and this is absolute your right) but I don't understand him. Well, you know everyone will support you here if it'll come to troubles ...

Buddha32 ( ) posted Sun, 23 September 2001 at 1:05 PM

Maybe I am missing something, but they both seem to be just a list of links. I guess I don't get what is so important about a list of links. If he copied your list it shows laziness and underhandedness on his part I suppose, but you claim "hours of research" - doesn't that translate simply to "surfing?" If he stole your list and the way you presented it, sure that sucks I guess, but you really shouldn't sweat the small stuff. I have been designing web pages for some time and I have seen templates of my designs used on other sites, I just take it as a compliment and get on with my life. Just my opinion though.
