Is the plug-in stand alone? I have heard that you need extra software to export it, but can't recall what that was, or where to find out.

Also is it me or has the price dropped drastictly???

Oh Luxrender! But how do you install that? Does it cost money? Is that a seperate program as well? Confused.... o0

Pose2Lux is a Poser scene exporter like Reality but is free.  Here is a tutorial on how to use it.

Without getting into confrontations, that other product is not like Reality. The features are very different.

Reality makes exporting senes into Lux a breeze. I tried that other one once and was tearing my hear out. Reality works. Nice and simple (or not so simple - once you get under the hood, just like Poser it renders OK "out of the box" and so much NICER once you know what you're doing :))

Reality does require a different mindset though. You need to start thinking in photography terms and not "what is usually used to cheat Firefly". Once that is done, it's a lot easier to work with because light ect behaves like in the real world and not like in Poser where lights are.. well.. sometimes great, but mostly a compromise :)

I do photography so that should be easy to think that way. Common problem people think like they see... you need to think what the camera sees, that why I truly like SLR's to digi's.... I like getting my hands wet I guess!

I haven't tried Pose2Lux, but I can say that Reality3 for Poser makes using Lux very easy. I have Reality2 for DS, and the material translations with Reality3 are much better. Getting great results is quite easy, and lighting is sooo much easier than in Poser (for me).

You just need to be prepared to wait a bit longer (quite a bit longer?) than is typical with Poser. Again, for me, the results are worth the wait. The last 4 images in my Gallery (link in my sig line) were done with LuxRender, 3 were done with Poser/Reality3, 1 with DS/Luxus (another pluging for DS to export to Lux). I think the Poser/Reality3 renders are much better, and it's due to the better interface and materials translation of Reality3. For comparison, there is also a DS/Reality 2 render in my Gallery (Bridget's Got Back), I think it's better than the DS/Luxus render, but not as good as the Reality3 generated renders. This is due to the improved materials translation with Reality3.

Keep in mind I'm not a expert with LuxRender, Reality2/3, or 3D in general. I'm just a novice that likes to make images when I get some free time, so if you really want to invest some time in optimising your materials/lighting, you will be able to get fantastic images.

To make a long post sort - I highly recommend Reality3 and Lux if you want to use an unbiased renderer with Poser, and you can't beat the cost of Lux!!!

For those who have money to buy / upgrade to Poser 9 or higher and still have money to spare, I'm sure Reality 3 is nice to have.  For those who do not, Pose2Lux is a nice free alternative. I have been quite happy with the renders I get from using Pose2Lux. Here is an example:

And those that really, realy have money... use Octane... that put a finger in the spokes eh!
