Subject: Two ways to do combined figures-both have problems-need advice

I have figured out two methods for combining figures ie clothes with a figure but both have their prblems and am wondering how others maybe doing this. Both methods still require mods to the cr2. Method 1. I create a new obj which is the combination of the clothes and the poser figure. They are all one obj. Pluses: All you need is the one obj file. Minuses: Does not allow mix and matching of clothes items. Its very static. Ading new clothes means a new obj. Method 2. Modifications to the cr2 to point to each obj in each seperate file. Pluses: Allows mix and match. Minuses: Poser clobbers these mods when you save the figure. Now I'd love to do method 2 but I don't want to deal with having to reinsert figureresfile lines back into the cr2 each time I change one item on the figure. Has anyone else used either method?

I use meathod one it works out he best for me the best thing i discovered is that you can make a larger or smaller breasted woman easyer than playing with magnets. Method one also works great when I make one of my fantacy scenes that have around 20 or so figures now with the ccombined figure i have around only five per scene. But if there is a better way I would like to know also....Viper

Well #2 works if you can stand going back into the cr2 after making a change and reinserting the figureresfile commands. Since I do things like combine the bikini top with the model, the morph targets work the same anyway. I do see your point though about the custome figs, especially if you're doing odd ones like fantasy figures. Just adjusting elf ears on the obj saves much more space than actually adding a morph target. Hopefully some experts can chime in on this.

Why not save the file from poser as a .pz3, rename it to .cr2, run it thru Cr2Edit and rip out the lights and cameras.... save it and viola. You still have references to multiple figures... and you have your combined result. -Rob

heya; if you WANT different clothing to put on and take off... why combine them at all? i mean, isn't conforming/parenting good enough for that?

when i save pz3 files with custom figs they are around 10megs each but the combined figs are only about 2megs the space saving really adds up, plus combined figs dont take as long to render in a scene

Yes plus I've tried the pz3 to cr2 approach and have had two big oproblems. One is the character comes back all weird like they are in a funhouse mirror. Secondly, the clothes don't conform as well as if they are part of the mesh. That's my biggest reason for combining to begin with. I don't want Wonder Woman's jubblies to pop out of her suit when she's slugged by some villain. Maybe they do but I don't :)

The conforming thing is well.... going to be a problem unless you combine the mesh. As for the .pz3-.cr2 thing, its easy to fix. The problem is that either the "storageOffset" or the "setGeomHandlerOffset" gets set to something other than "0 0 0" by poser when it writes the new file. Change them back to "0 0 0" and the mangled figures will be a thing of the past. One of the Meta guys gave that cure in the chat with them a while back. -Rob

I believe it was Larry Weinberg himself that gave the cure...

In fact I'll add it as an option in Morph Manager so you can click and have it fix the figure.
