Subject: What will Vue 12 Infinite Have?

With Vue 11.5 Infinite being tested can anyone tell me what Vue 12 Infinite is likely to contain as opposed to Vue 11? I missed the 11.5 upgrade as I could not afford to continue with my maintenance plan! If there is not a great deal of difference,due to cost I might just stay with Vue 11! Cheers

Each version now is pretty much just for keeping up with Poser, 3DS, Maya, C4D, and now their Tree Factory.  Then they deactivate parts that are new or improved to sell at lower prices.  The low-end versions include mostly just a Poser import update, if that.

For sure though, Vue Infinite 12 will have all the 11.5 stuff, if you remember what new features they were.

It will have all the 11.5 featues and some more..... it will be expensive..... it will have bug fixes that version 11 should have instead..... and when looking at the new features and price tag, it probably will not be worth buying at all. Has been like this for years :-(

I went from Vue 6 to Vue 10..... now that was worth paying for, but I really fail to see why I would even want to pay lot's of money to upgrade to Vue 11 now.... nothing there that justifies the price tag at all. Same with Vue 11.5, nothing there that even remotely makes me want to start thinking of upgrading to Vue 12 later on. The only thing I see in version 11.5 are features that should have been added to Vue 11 through an upgrade for free!

When all is said and done, you will have wait at to know what more Vue 12 has, it will only be revealed shortly before the release.

The only thing I would be interested in would be an improvement on using the particle system. For example making smoke and fire etc.Vue 11 already does this although in a very clumsly way. If I have an already animated object ftom Poser it wants to discard the animation in order to apply smoke etc to funnel of ships etc.I then have to re animate the object. Cheers

It'll have GPU rendering, why not use those thousand of graphic cores? lol

Or real time rendering like in computer games. (like Crysis-Sandbox, for example)

Crysis Sandbox vill render everything in real time, like nice water waves, wind etc. so I'm looking forward that Vue implements such a render environment...at least for preview rendering!

i would like in vue a physica lcorrect sky. so that when you save as openexr we get true 32 bit hdr sky.

 

i would also like a more clear interface for cloud settings. where every word means what it means.

 

the ability to import an obj model and convert it to a meta cloud. creating a custom shape in blender is 2000 times easier than in Vue

It will finally getting rid of that annoying grainyness. Antialiasing is still a mess after all that years. You have to set the AA-slider to the max to get acceptable results, but Render time will go straight through the ceilling. Old cows will be young again, before it's done ;) ^^ . Carrara is so much better here. Well, I am quite sure, this will be finally fixed in VUE12.

yeah teh AA settings are a joke. Vue is not that fast when you would like a clean image.its easier to make landscapes than in other software. but rendering it out for close ups or animation is very hard.

 

i think the biggest problem i have are the meta clouds. why cant we make our own shape?

I've skipped 11 thinking I'd probably get 12, but 10 C is working pretty good for my needs right now.  12 will have to have something pretty amazing to get my money.

Aye will be so. I stopped at Vue 9.5 because I didn't see anything that would have knocked my socks off in 10- 11. I stopped buying trying to keep up with the Jones on new versions I can find plenty of other things to waste my money on then to waste it on versions of software with little new in them. One has to come to a point to live within their means :)

I started a thread with that suggestion a few years ago. The answer from E-On was "we do not have the same number of developers". 

Otherwise, realistic terrain erosion (like Geocontrol or World Machine) would be nice. A coherent water system with rivers or lakes would be interesting too.

Vue 12 will have nothing at all..... it's sad but true, Vue 12 will not be released.

Good news is that Vue 2014 will be released instead :-) Even better news is that we don't have to wait until 2014, but we can get the future now..... well almost. Just read in the Vue forums that Vue 2014 will be released next month. I'm curious, if it's good I'm intending to upgrade my good old Vue 10, assuming they will keep the 2 versions down upgrade path intact.

I'm still using 9.5 with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.  Vue 10 had bugs with animation and a few other things that were carried over into 11 and yada yada.  10 was the free upgrade thing for buying 9.5.  Kind of like buying two versions of Vue for the price of one, and then picking which Vue to keep using based on the least buggy.  I still use Poser 6 which animates/renders just fine in Vue 9.5.  And I don't use Max, or C4D, or LW, or Maya, or whatever, so I don't have to upgrade Vue every six months.  Or anymore in fact.  I have plenty of trees and stuff already for Vue.  I tried the PLE version of Tree Factory 2014, and un-installed it after 5 minutes (didn't like the GUI at all).  I already have enough tree programs I don't use anyway.

Searching for Vue 2014 I could only find this single reference

In regard to the topic above it's probably a good bet they've been working on the particle system. Maybe grow some grass or something, but with the sale of the new plant editor they may want to limit that ability to the rather expensive proprietary format.

One thing to remember, in nearly every new version of Vue the rendering engine has been tweaked and refined with a nice increase in speed each time. That adds up after a while. Just saying. Maybe not so much the best reason to hand over tons of money but it's pretty good. Or the new speed could mean the old versions were kind of slow...

That is exactly what I'm hoping for. I'm still on Vue 10, but I know first hand that Vue 11 is about 25% faster in rendering, but there aren't enough other features to entice me, although I've been considering upgrading a few times. If Vue 2014 will be another 25% or so faster and adding some interesting things on top of Vue 11, then I will get it. So, hoping for some good rendering time decrease!

I stopped at Vue 6 infinite. Not saying that from Vue 6 Infinite to Vue 11 Infinite there's nothing in it for me, but meh I rather had a new car and still don't regret that step.

Great. More confirmation.

So, yah, I'm also just about ready to let my maintenance contract expire.

But the real strength of Vue is it's ability to handle dozens of millions of polygons with ease and speed. Adding thousands of cluttery items with an eco-system isn't generally going to even cause the rendering engine to cough. It's a work horse.

But not an elegant work horse. Have to find 250 dollars by December for 'Infinite maintenance'.

The render is faster because they find new ways to cleverly hide more grain.  That is why aa settings need to be increased so dramatically.

I have Vue 10  Studio+ and just bought Poser 10. Are you saying that Poser 10 will not work with Vue 10?  I need to know before I delete Poser 9.  That type thing should be included in a free update IMO.

Yes, the chance is that Poser 10 will never work with Vue 10. I don't think they're going to upgrade Vue 10 to work with Poswer 10. They may not even uograde Vue 11 to work with Poser 10, since Vue 12 is just around the corner. I don't know for sure, since I'm still on Poser Pro 2012 and I'm not going to upgrade my Poser at all.

Just got the e-mail and download link for Maintenance users. The e-mail listed these new features.

Here is a shortlist of some of the important new features included in Vue 2014:

  • World Point Position (or XYZ) Pass: Vue 2014 adds a WPP pass to the extensive list of channels that Vue can generate for added compositing flexibility.
  • Physically Accurate Sunlight Model and Photometric Lights: The new scientifically accurate photometric sunlight model uses a real-world, physical simulation of sun and atmospheric lighting intensities. You can now assign physically accurate values to all light properties, such as color temperature, light intensity (Lumens or Candelas) and IES Profiles.
  • Tone Mapping: Vue 2014 lets you select different tone mapping filters to specify how raw HDR colors are transformed into the final picture. These filters typically simulate the response of the human eye or chemical photographic film.
  • Natural Grain: This new mode produces natural color variations particularly well suited for terrains, ground, or any natural elements. Ideal for quick results, the Natural Grain option provides high level access to settings such as contrast, balance and roughness, directly from the Material Editor.
  • EcoSystem improvements: EcoSystem Clumping replicates the natural phenomenon where plants grow close together rather than evenly distributed. Vue 2014 features highly optimized algorithms to accelerate the rendering of EcoSystems containing many small items, such as gravel or grass blades.
  • Improved Plant Factory compatibility: Health, Seasonality or any other published plant parameters can be animated directly inside the Vue timeline. When using Plant Factory plants in EcoSystems, a new Quality setting is available in the Population list to define the amount of detail of the plant instances, thus saving memory and reducing render times.
  • Interface improvements: The Vue 2014 Function Editor was redesigned for improved performance on modern computer displays. A new option is available that protects the render camera from any unwanted modifications and automatically switches to perspective view whenever the viewport is modified. Vue 2014 can position the sun exactly as it would be in real-life, based on time of day, date and location on Earth.
  • Many other improvements such as Foldable EcoPainter, highly optimized flat Area Lights, names in Render Stack, improved material manipulation, and more...

Well cleverness is certainly part of the process, but there is also a good deal of new technology involved in the increased performance. Compare Maxwell to Blender internal and you should see a pronounced difference. Optimizing the algorithms for math performance is incredibly important to efficiency of cpu cycles. Older versions of Vue weren't even mildly competitive.

"highly optimized flat Area Lights" is a feature of Vue 2014. Not only the rendering engine but the computation of light will impact to a large degree the quality and amount of time spent on any given render.

The new physically accurate lighting is really pretty. I'm having trouble saying no to a renewed subscription. : )

Infinite is well beyond my means and my needs.  Has anyone heard when the artist versions will come out?  I have Vue 10 Studio now and they usually put the prior version on sale just before the new version comes out. That's why I normally stay a version behind. Now I have to decide whether to stay with 10, step up to 11 for the particles, or take the bigger leap to 2014. Advice appreciated.

One further question. Does the import problems with Poser 10 to Vue 10 only apply to characters like V4 or can you not import anything?  I do some aviation renders using Poser aircraft models. I set them up in Poser and then import into Vue.

No estimate given when the other versions will come out, but it's still this month according to the newsletter. I'm hoping for Vue 11 to go on sale as well!

First few tests are showing v2014 to result with render times about 20% faster than v11.5. And lighting is really very nice. In the image below notice the color bleeding. All light (global radiosity) is bounced from a single quadratic point light with a power setting of 5. No sunlight. No direct lighting. The bleeding is from a bounced shadow. Not bad. Also what looks like a little bit of bloom at the bright spot. Render time was 1 min 52 with Ultra settings.

Looks great. I've seen some very nice 2014 renders already and the new photometric light looks very nice. Do you think the 20% speed increase in rendering is for all scene or just ones with a specific setup, like lot's plants, water and so on?

Would these photometric lights be in the Artist versions as well?

Thank you. The image has been redone and should look a little sharper now. 1400 x 788 (because of forum limitations), 221K, render time 5:51. Drag from the browser or something to see full size. Aliasing is still possibly tricky but with some experimentation potentially discernable. Seems to be improved.

The render engine has been the same in previous versions hasn't it? I thought it was. So yes, you'd think the photometric features should be available in Vue Artist. Nice.

As for speed, I've only tested a few things but at all settings renderings were generally a little faster. In past versions that has translated to huge scenes scaling proportionally. Instead of two days only one day or more or less. Every little bit. Still need to do a lot more testing.

Well, curious to know how the testing works out! I haven't owned previous versions except for 6 easel and now Vue 10 Studio, so I wouldn't what carries over from Infinite to Artist :-)

Another test. Simple scene with ground plane and the Pink Evening Spectral Sunset. Converted to Photometric Spectral in Vue 14 = 20 min 55 sec, and the same scene in Vue 14 spectral render results = 10 min 28 sec render time, and, then, Vue 11.5 = 10 min 4 sec.

I was doing a bunch of other stuff while the render was running so that could account for  some of the difference. The 20 percent mentioned above was from a scene with no clouds and non volumetric sunlight which the Pink Evening Sunset does have.

The new atmosphere is a little confusing. New scenes open with no sun for some reason and light and atmosphere settings are still somewhat cryptic so there is still a good deal of ambiguity about it all.

Hopefully there'll be more results showing up around the web soon.
