I would like to start using a 3d painting. I work with poser pro 2014. 

I looked at reality paint pro from blacksmith witch is in my price range. Are there other alternatives in sub 600$ price range that are good, better..... .

For that price it would probably be your best bet.

There is always Blender which is free.

blender can take months to learn, but yes that's true. Its UI is just very un-artistically friendly and quite confusing at times, even for seasoned artists. I use it for UV mapping, but its poly modeling functions make me want to eat my own face off. I've never tried painting in it. I have ZBrush for that. Nothing beats ZB.

RealityPaint gives you a lot of bang for the buck. Blender is a really good free alternative, but it isn't as easy to use (though you can do a lot more with it if you want, since it is a full modeling/animation software).

The big plus with RealityPaint for Poser users is it was designed to be used with Poser content. and has some great and easy to use painting and morphing tools. it comes with the texture transformer, and if you use Dawn, it is a great way to re-purpose your V4 textures for use with Dawn (other conversions are being worked on). One plus is the development of RealtyPaint has been quite active over the past couple of years, and some very nice features have been added. I have it, and have been quite happy with my investment.

All other 3d paint applications are quite a bit more both in price and complexity, and have a much greater learning curve. 3D Coat might be of interest, I think it's about $400. It might be more than what your looking for but definitely worth looking at.

I'd say download the Demo versions of both RealityPaint, 3D Coat, and any other applications of interest and try them out first to make sure they do what you want.

3DCoat is awesome, it's very close to zBrush. I've used it for a couple of years and always loved it, easy to use, affordable and offers lot's and lot's of excellent features. Sometimes I still regret selling my license to someone else (yes they allow you to do that, so not all is lost when you stop using it) but I really don't have use for it anymore.

Before getting 3DCoat, I never used 3D painting before, but I did find it easy to learn and it gave me awesome results.

If I had $600.00 I would go a head and give $800.00 for zBrush.

I do like 3D Paints for what there good for.

A 3D Painting brush does not bend around edges.
So if ya going to paint a cube with 90 degree edges 3D paint ,not going to help with seemless.

Always a real real good idea to terrorize Demos.

Blender is a killer App that has about all the tools as the other App's for free .
So ya can test just about any CGI tech with Blender.

Thanks for the input wil certainly consider z brush also it is in the upper scale of what i would like to spend but it does a lot more then just painting and looks very suitable for working with poser content.

Sculptris, a freebie from Pixologic.com,  has a paint section that you can paint your .obj or apply a texture to it then save the texture (UV map is automatically generated) then import that .obj into your favorite 3D modeling program like Poser etc...
