Subject: PIAA searching for home ...

Schlabber ( ) posted Sun, 23 September 2001 at 1:49 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 7:54 PM

... now that's CD is done I can start rebuilding "Posing is an art" (PIAA) - Version 3.0 So ... I'm searching for a home ... What will be at this site ... some rotating stuff from the older PIAA (in monthly zyklus 100 poses or so ...). Why not all ?? Well, that's obvious ... not enough bandwieth for such a thing ... and well - I think the CD of mine is quite a good deal if you want to have many poses at once (and of course on this CD are about 3000 poses that were not and will never be for free) Of course there will be a lot of new stuff then ... (allready made 'some' poses after finishing of the CD (lol)- I'll make some tests to see how much I can offer without being killed from a provider again ... So the question ... Do you know a host where I can store around 100 MByte and maybe with unlimited bandwidth-usage ?? If it is for Free it would be marvellous ... if it costs not much - that's also OK :o) If you know something ... please let me know ... Thank you Schlabber

I wish I could help you but I don't have that much space left and I only have 60 mgs right now. I will be getting more space but not for another year. Hope some one can help you. Sharen

try addr, they are only 8.95 for 25 megs (at least, that's what I payed), so maybe the additional megs won't be too expensive. I use them and I am very happy Addr.com is the addy

I guess it depends on if you are in the US or not...don't know how much it is outside the US. Sharen

I use Ares Network (www.aresnetwork.com - I think) $9.95/mo for 100MB. I found them through hostsearch (www.hostsearch.com) where you can find a large number of hosts based on different criteria

wow that's great! :)

Schlabber ( ) posted Sun, 23 September 2001 at 6:13 PM

well well well ... maybe should say that again ... the main problem is not the mostly costs ... the main problem is the bandwidth - I know that PIAA is a bandwidth-monster and I don't want to run into any financial problem by giving away free stuff :o) So finally not the monthly paying-rate is that important ($ 10 or 20 - who cares ? - well, maybe a little - but it is worthless if I have to puy enourmous amounts of $ when I'm over 6 GByte per month -> just for example).

The only way I can suggest "unlimited" bandwidth, is setting up a server "in-house" and load you site on it. Then you got the costs of connection...... T1 is about $1,000 month around here. Cobalt Networks sells a good server for about $1,400. Plus networking equipment, etc. Either way you go, bandwidth is not cheap. If you get alot of bandwidth expect to pay alot. I got 10 Gigs bandwidth and 100 megs hd-sppace for $14.95 a month. My host is WTF Hosting. http://www.wtfhosting.com Just my $0.02

If you can't find a free one...go to www.cedesign.net. Cedge has recommended hosts for me to use with clients, in the past. They were the most reasonable that I found. He's a good guy, too. He'll lead you to the right folks for stuff like bandwidth, cc acceptance, etc. Hope this helps. Poppi

amhosting has a package that's 11.95 a month with unlimited data transfer and 100MB of storage. It's called their "Advanced" Plan, and it's at amhosting.com under the Hosting tab. Hope this helps! I personally signed up with BizHosting.com, and am was my second choice. The only reason I didn't go with them was because BizHosting has a free merchant account and online store/cart included free in the Value hosting option.

I have 2 domains being hosted at www.easyspace.com. They charge $95.88 p/yr for 100mb and unltd bandwith. If you register a .com domain name its only $17 per year. They do limit files sizes to 1.5mb unless you specifically rqst otherwise. I have never had probs with them. Have had 1 domain there for about 3 yrs and just recently signed up for a 2nd one. :)

freedrive.com has their business offering at http://www.companydrive.com/ It offers storage and access to files for companies, customers, and collaborators. they want an account rep to contact you but I've had a freedrive acount for years and believe that the fees are very reasonable.

Schlabber, I would be honored to host PIAA on Nexus, and can easily provide 100MB with unlimited bandwidth. The only think I couldn't do would be a full domain name...you'd end up with a subdirectory URL (http://nexus.telefragged.com/PIAA for example). That's a limitation of my host, unfortunately, but that may be changing in the future. Cost to you? Not a nickel (though exclusive review rights would be cool ;)). By hosting the work of talented artists like yourself, I give back to a community that I otherwise can't contribute much to (yet). If you're interested, give me a holler...my email is at the bottom of every page on Nexus.

nexus offer sounds good above, but if your find the "unlimited bandwidth" is not high enough (which are limited, you just don't know till you hit it!) you should check out spaceports.com - the limit is 20Gig/month bandwidth, the space is unlimited (you request for as much as you need.) and it is free. No nudity allowed... I don't remember the TOS fully, but that's something for you to check out. :) I'm not saying nexus is not good! It's a very generous offer by ChromeTiger! I'm just saying in case it isn't AS good (everyone has limits) you can check out spaceports. :) goodluck :)

April, In the nearly 3 years Nexus has been running, I have never had an issue with bandwidth usage, and we used to sport a file library in the gigabyte range. The only time I have ever had a problem was when we basically flooded the FTP space with the file library, and even that got ironed out in a day... ;-)
