"Oh - the manual says that? I have never read the manual - this must be why."Thanks WandW - I did just that. I may regret making that push to update to 8.1 and waited a bit - kinda like (hoping to not get banned) the glitches to the site of ACA - no pun intended.

When I looked at Windows 8 a while back, I also looked at my birth certificate.
That says I am older then 50, not just became 5.
Who does Microsoft think we are?
4 to 6 years olds snotballs ? ? ? ? ?
And 8.1 does not seem to increase their respect for us at all.
Any future new PC I will insist on XP or (If I have to) Win 7.
Yes please, all file a ticket with SM.
PS. you all tried the latest AIR and Flash?
I heard that their "improved" Media player did not even play Mov files? The older Media player did.

I got report back from Support and it's very discouraging:
Thank you for contacting Support. Poser Pro 2012 is not supported on Windows 8 or 8.1
If you have the SR 3.1 installed and you are using the External AIR Library, Poser Pro 2012 should work on Windows 8.1, but this is not a supported Operating System.
It worked fine for me in W8 proper. Maybe it's a means to force me to get Poser 9 (2014).
A real bummer.

And of cousrse, Poser crashes so you can't switch to the external library. In your Poser.ini file, (in C:UsersUSERNAMEAppDataRoamingPoser Pro9) make sure this line is there:
LIBRARY_IS_AIR 1
Set the value to 1 if it is 0
That should (I think!) enable the external library...

Glad it worked. Unfortuantely, Knechtruprecht has Poser 9, and so doesn't have that option...
EDIT Try compatability mode emulating Windows 7.
Upgrade to Poser 10 from 9 is $60.12 right now...

Windows 7 64bit Ultimate has been pretty rock solid. IMHO it's an improvment over XP and if you have a system that can support 64 bit. If your system is 32bit, stay with XP.

noun, plural mo·nop·o·lies.
1. exclusive control of a commodity or service in a particular market,
or a control that makes possible the manipulation of prices
No issues with Poser Pro 2012 and Windows 8 here. I have not upgraded to 8.1. As a desktop user that doesn't give a single care about the Apps, Start Screen or the Charms Bar, I don't see any need to move up to something that is less compatible with what I use.
I read quite a bit on 8.1 and see no effort to enhance the desktop environment.
The only reason I even use Win 8 is that I had a HD meltdown last year and decided to do a full upgrade of my system. Win 8 Pro was offered at a steal so I took a chance on it. Once I swept away all the stuff that I mentioned above, it works much like Windows 7 here and I'm fine with it.

Well, I did it. New Windows, new Poser10 - and Poser 10 crashes even a bit faster than Poser 9. :-((
Time to run something like :
Ccleaner
Windows Cleaner
My personal favorite : Advanced System Care free from www.iobit.com
Glary Utilities
Poser 10 should be rock steady (with the SR's applied) on Windows 8 and 8.1
Poser 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7,

Make sure that you have installed the Service Release; it needs to be applied even if you just bought it:
SR2 Enhancements and Fixes, by Category
General
•Now preventing instability while parsing files containing mismatched quotes
•Restored right-click functionality for top of Parameters/Properties palette (shows current object options context menu)
•Now supporting Windows 8.1...

If that doesn't fix it, send in a support ticket...

Well, fixed! After the installation of the SR2 P10 seems to work fine. B-))
Many thanks for the help!
You are the BEST !!!
I just installed Poser 8 on my new system and it did not open. Could not open the executable file. What means I could not even type the serial number in.
Read back and forth in google and nothing and then went to the Rendo forum and found your answer.
Do you have a hint to get Poser 8 working either???
Greetings from Germany
Ingrid

Tried running Poser 9 under the Windows 7 (and all the others listed) mode -- No go.
Upgrade to Poser 10 is not an option right now... although "DAZ Studio for free and never looking back" is looking particularly tempting at this moment...
Any other possible fixes for Poser 9?
What does the SR release for Poser 10 fix that makes it Windows 8.1 compatible? Is that something that could work for Poser 9 and/or 8?
with WIN 7 all programs are running. Even very old PSP programs. But the SR3 patch should be applied.
I have running in WIN 7 Poser 8, Poser 9 and Poser Pro 2012.
WIN 8 only 64 bit Poser Pro 2012 ist running with correcting library - Air - 0 to library - Air - 1.
The workspace is terrible. All very small and hard to read. All other programs like Paint Shop Pro have the same size of the work space.
Poser Pro 2012 is very slow and I guess when I really work with it it will crash.
I am still waiting for Poser Pro 2014 German coming out. Promised for middle of October and now for end of November.
All other 32 bit programs are working in WIN 8.
I would like to use up and then Poser 8 and it is very unkind that Smith Micro is telling that they don't support elder programs.
In Win 7 your Poser programs should run all but you need the update patches.
I've read on a different forum that installing Poser 9 to an external drive might work.
I also read that a customer who bought Poser 9 on sale last month got a refund after a representative admitted that Smith Micro knew at that time that the program wasn't going to be compatible... So if your purchase was that recent, refund may be an option.
I think only 64 bit Poser works. Problem is WIN 8.1 and I would revert to 8 but I have a brand new machine with a WIN 8.1 CD ROM installed.
Good that my WIN 7 machine is still running and I would not even upgrade my WIN 7 machine upgrade to WIN 8.
I have now hazzles with the new Corel Paint Shop Pro X6. Only the 64 bit version works but does not show most of the filters. But can not start the 32 bit version as possible with Photo Shop.
So best is to wait with the update to 8.1 until the have the bugs out.
I have Windows 8.1 and Poser Pro 2014 works fine. I have limited use of my hands and like Windows 8 because I can easily use it with a touch screen monitor. Frankly, I think I would hate it if I didn't have touch screen, though. At least version 8.1 has a Windows button to get back to the start screen so you don't have to use the Windows keyboard button anymore.
I really hope so that Poser Pro 2014 is running. I buy it when the German version after waiting now months is coming out end of November.
Problem are the elder Poser versions.
As I pay much more for the German version because you don't get those discount offers you get for the English versions it is really anyoing when the elder versions do not work.
I have items with fur which are made for earlier versions and will not look so great in the higher versions.
But perhaps somebody is coming up with a hint or trick to get Poser 8 and 9 working.
I really don't understand that the elder versions don't run, when Adobe programs as well as Paint Shop Pro do. I have programs installed prior to 2004 and they run without any problems.

Hi guys,
yesterday I updated Windows from 8 to 8.1. Bad idea, because now my poser application (Poser 9) crashes immediately after start.
Does anybody has any solutions? or similar experiences?
Does P10 work fine with win 8.1?
Thanks in advance for any help, because now all my render activities suffer a forced break.
