Subject: Install DIM Format Files In Poser without the Install Manager???

aldebaran40 ( ) posted Sat, 30 November 2013 at 4:16 PM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 12:11 AM

I downloaded the latest vecion Dson importer 1.1.133 , the GenesisStarterEssentials, Genesis2Female / maleStartet with their PCompanion  files.

However The problem is that they are not installers ,  are compressed estructure files.

I find that are DIM format files and  are ready to be installed with providing DAZ installed, the problem is that from what I saw this "DIM installer" works by opening ports in the background and by connecting without my permission  which honestly I do not like

I ask myself if there is any way to install these contents (and possibly any other "DIM" content that may purchase in the future  ) , without using that "DAZ Install Manager (DIM)" for example by copying and pasting folders

thanks in advance

The only online stuff the Install Manger does is, if you work online, grab your list of purchases from the DAZ servers so it can see if there are any downloaded fiels that need updating, and list anything you have yet to download. If you've downloaded the zips already just place them in the downloads folder and work in Offline mode - they will be listed in the ready to install tab. In the case of content you can also simply unzip and treat the files and folders in the Content folder the way you would the content of a Zip from Renderosity. Plugins and so on are a bit fiddlier to handle manually but can be installed by hand. The Content Management Service is installed by the Install Manager, but isn't needed for it to work and can be uninstalled if you want (especially if you don't use DS). However I do need to note that the ports it uses are purely for local use, so that applications can talk to the service, not for use over the network on the Internet - your firewall should be able to distinguish between local traffic and external traffic. But as I said, if you are a Poser user there's no benefit in keeping the CMS in any event.

Ok RHaseltine ,  I think understand,  thanks for your detailed reply , was very very clear.

Then I would be useful to know how to uninstall the "The Content Management Service " , because from what I've seen to the "DIM  Install Manager" do not have the option to not install "The Content Management Service ".

I'll go see daz page to see if they explain how to do it

On Windows it should have a short cut to stop the service and then to ininstall in Start>DAZ 3D>DAZ Content Management Service, not sure where the Mac uninstaller would be.
