Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 25 12:38 pm)
Well at least I am not alone I spent a great deal on some new scenes from Truform and and ironman13 using the 50% off voucher. It was only after that I got the email with 65% of Blacksmith3D Pro. I had looked at Blacksmith a couple of times but at $65 instead of $199 it decided I just had to dig even deeper. Whats to betting I will have an unexpected expense on the home or car in a few days.
I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 - Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU . The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.
I realised I have not saved in the sense I now have less money for the rest of the month but I suffer from the belief that money has no true value until you spend it.
Probably stems from my days of dealing with familes after a parent had unfortunately died and occasionally the off spring were really only interested in who had the money and how quickly. Always made me wish the people had spent all their money while they were alive.
That, plus the fact that the people who really suffered in the banking crisis were those who had saved, has sort of left a sour taste in my month. Now I save a little each month and once that is saved I spend all the rest.

Quote - You guys all remind me of my wife...
She came home from the Black Friday sales and was gushing all over the place... "Look how much I SAVED!" she enthused.
I grumpily replied: "But look at how much it cost you!"
$.02
What's really sad is if you wait until the day after Christmas it'll be much cheaper.
Well I took the plunge and got V6 for 1/2 price, plus a few items of $1 clothes. V6 seems to work well in Poser with the latest importer. Existing V4 hair, both prop and conforming seems to work with minimal adjustment. Several items of V4 clothes I previously tediously converted to V5 also seem to work on V6 with minimal adjustment. I cannot get the fitting room to work with V6 though, as yet.
I think of it this way: it's on sale. You are using your credit card to purchase those lovely items.
If you don't pay off the credit card right away, interest charges start adding up.
The sale item is no longer a sale item. Especially if you let the interest build for more than a couple months.
On the other hand, if they are 50% or more off, there is a bargain in there anyhow!
If I had a nickle for ever time a woman told me to get lost, I could buy Manhattan.
I never go into debt. The credit card balance is always in credit. So effectively I am buying the stuff for cash. And I use Poser for work. That cuts down on the guilt factor.
The sales have been so good this year, I am really grateful for being able to acquire so many excellent things for such good prices. Some of the items were more than 60% off. Several of the character packages were ones that I liked when they came out and I then told myself I can't justify paying the full price, but when it goes on sale....
And then they all went on sale at once.
I am so pleased about the plants though. I always considered plants for Poser a luxury because I can make my own....it is a huge amount of work to make a good flower though. A few months ago I bought many of Lisa's Botanicals at Daz for some ridiculous price like $2.50 each. I could have done without them, but they make me so happy, I was literally doing the happy dance. Some of the plants by Traveller that I got yesterday were only $1.99....
Just about everything else can wait until it goes on sale. But I haven't spent this heavily on 3d content since I started the hobby six years ago. Yes, it was a splurge. I really have to rein myself in now. I just hope this lovely content will take my renders to a new level.

Yeah, I was speaking mostly from my experiences with much larger ticket items (like flat screens and such), and with the wife's tendency to buy something just because it was on sale, not because it was something we needed.
Your situation is totally different, as it's self-sustaining. Enjoy your purchases!

All these end of year sales are biting deep into my pocket.
I noticed that RuntimeDNA had lots of Michelle and Antonia characters on sale, and I fell for those. I also bought lots of lovely plants really inexpensively - I love flowers for my renders. And some Victorian and country scene props and textures for them from the deep freeze section. I just couldn't resist them.
And here at Renderosity I bought several vehicles that were on sale - cars and trucks from RPublishing. Food items by Exnem, and some of Fabiana's wonderful characters when they were on sale. It all adds up, but it's priceless ... as they say in the classics.
What did you buy on the end of year sales?
