Earlier this year I looked at purchasing Vue but became a little put of when reading a little about the amount of different versions and licensing restrictions.

Any thoughts on this Pioneer version, I'm downloading it now I thought it would at least let me get my toes wet to see how interested I am in a err.. fuller License type.

I see Daz has reduced the price of frontier to around 50-70 dollars, from what I can see this offers more for a better price.

Pioneer has been free for ages, since it was released. It's like a stripped down demo. E-On makes it sound really great, but it's only good to get a taste of Vue, it's the toy version.

Next up is Frontier, but even that is very limited. You can import your static Poser and DAZ scenes, works well. When it comes to rendering it is still really limited. Also be aware that the majority of screenshots shown to promote Frontier cannot be replicated with Frontier at all, most of them have been created with Vue Infinite.

One thin you have to take into account is that E-On does a lot of false advertising. Yes, it is as horrible as it sounds. They will show you lovely images that you can never create with the version you're buying :-(

If you really want to enjoy Vue you have to buy at least the Studio version with perhaps the Ecopaint module added. Studio gives you at least Ecosytems, decent rendering, good light options and the ability to modify your plants. If you have more then one computer, the Studio version gives you the ability to do network rendering.

Oh, and so that you're aware of it..... Vue loves eating up memory and is very CPU power hungry. It can create awesome things, if you have the computer for it. Let me put it this way.... an i5 with 4Gb won't do, think i7 with 8Gb as a minimum. Again, don't believe what E-on tells you the minimum specs are, 2GHz Pentium IV or better processor with 1GB of free RAM is pure none sense. What they list as recommended is really the minimum if you want to have some fun with Vue.

Yes, fun it can be once you get to know Vue, if you spent some time learning it you can do cool stuff with it. I recommend checking out www.geekatplay.com for some excellent tutorials, lot's of them free :-)

Sorry for the late reply, but we're slow around here, if you even get a reply at all..... our computers have been completely taken over by Vue's rendering engine, most of the time ;-)

Cheers mate, thanks for the reply. It sounds pretty much along the lines i was thinking I was considering buying studio with a few modules. As you said the eco system side of it is pretty important.

I'm running 16.Gb of ram so i'm hoping that should be plenty. Thanks for the geekatplay link to I'll check it out!

16Gb is plenty of RAM :-) Unless you're going to import lot's of Poser figures at once. Make sure you check out Complete as well if you plan on buying extra modules. You may end up cheaper with Complete then when you buy Studio with a number of modules, but that depends on the modules.

One last little warning..... if you buy 2014 Studio with a number of extra modules and whenever 2015 is released you want to upgrade to it, be aware that you have upgrade all of the extra modules seperately from Studio 2015. I ended up going from Studio to Complete, that was a lot cheaper then upgrading my extra modules.

Vue's pricing scheme is a scam to say the least.   Be careful when buying because upgrading & updating is very limited.
