Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
Hi Folks! There is a shareware application called ZipIt that works fine for downloading Poser files on both Macs and Pcs. I'm not sure where you can find it--start with a site such as Version Tracker. Moreover, the CD that usually comes with the newstand issue of Macworld usually includes lots of file exchange or compression shareware--ZipIt may be one of them. If all else fails, type in the keyword and see where it takes you. Peter (Dr Zik)
If you're on a Mac, you should really consider getting the complete Stuffit package. It not only enables you to stuff and unstuff files, but supports decoding zip, gzip, arc, binhex, DiskDoubler, Compact Pro, lha, tar, uucode, and a number of other encodings and compression schemes you're likely to run into. One of the most indispensable Mac utilities around overall. Version 5.5 of Stuffit supports unzipping files in the Finder; you never even have to start another application.
I totally agree with xeno in recommending the full package, but just to clear it up in detail: You don't have to buy it to expand .zip! The free expander (versions 5.1.x/5.5) from: http://www.aladdinsys.com/expander/index.html will expand the following formats free of charge: - StuffIt (.sit, .sea) - Private File (.pf) - Disk Images (.img, .smi) - BinHex (.hqx) - MacBinary (.bin) - UU (.uu, .uue) - Zip/GZip (.zip, .gz, .tgz) - TAR (.tar) (5.5) The StuffitEngine that ships with DropStuff (ShareWare) and StuffItDeluxe (Commercial) will further expand: - Arc (.arc) - AppleLink Package (.pkg) - Compact Pro (.cpt) - LHa (.lha, .lzh) - MIME/Base 64 (.mime) - TAR (.tar) (5.1.x) - Unix Compress (.z, .taz) The only one from this list that you might find in reality (as far as Poser goes) will be LHa, and there is a free expander (MacLHa) for that as well (don't ask me where... but the format is very popular in Japan). Nevertheless, if you can afford it - buy Deluxe. You can edit the .sit archives, and drag in/out any files you want straight into the Finder - just this is already worth every penny!

I have downloaded files from the Free Stuff pages in the Bryce section. The thumbnails said they were for both Macs and PCs however the files are Zipped. I am using a Macintosh and have been unable to unzip the files. Is there a way to convert the zipped files into files I can use Stuffit expander to uncompress? I have access to a PC so I have been able to unzip the files but its an extra step for me. Thanks for any help.
