Subject: A question for the ladies or their significant others...

EClark1894 ( ) posted Wed, 08 January 2014 at 4:42 PM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 12:54 PM

What kind of purse, pocketbook or handbag do you use? Do women still use them a lot? And are they still an essential accessory for women?

Also, what do you usually keep in your purse, handbag or pocketbook? Keys, Lipstick, gum, tissue, change?

Now, why I'm asking... I'm trying to expand my horizon as far as what content I make. Since I just got accepted at CP as  a seller, I'm gonna need something else to give out as freebies, so I thought I'd take a stab at stuff like that.

I'm not married and don't have a girlfriend, so I might even go out and buy a purse just to see what comes with one. Or if I cheap out, I'll just get one of my neices to loan me one as a model.

EClark1894 ( ) posted Wed, 08 January 2014 at 4:46 PM

Oh, as long as I'm asking, what if any morphs would you want to include in a model?

You could always watch some of the "What's in my bag" clips on Youtube.  An extremely popular category.

I wouldn't ignore mace, pepper spray, brass knuckles, switch blades or small caliber pistols.

Mrs. Bob almost always totes a large capacity shoulder bag, hardly ever a small handbag since, as she's fond of pointing out, "we never go anywhere smart". The large capacity is to ensure that she can't find her phone in time to answer it. Shoulder straps are more practical since they leave both hands free for whacking errant husbands who are 'gathering reference material' from other passing females. :)

If you were to make such a thing, an opening morph would be very useful - very few Poser bags seem to have that feature, surprisingly. If possible, a versatile strap that allows the bag to hang on the left or right, and to cope with movement of the figure would be best.

My purse has to look like a purse. Leather or leather looking. Not look like a gym bag or a suitcase. I have seen a few cute cloth or straw ones but I don't trust the durability. It needs a zipper rather than a flap with a snap. Those fail too often. I need a shoulder strap. (same reason as Mrs. Bob :)) and it needs to be large to hold all the things I need and all the things my family asks me to put in there so they don't have to hold them. And lots of pockets so I can keep it all organized and find it all. (yeah right)

Whats in my purse currently:
a wallet with money, credit cards, gift cards, savers cards, insurance card and library card.
hair brush
hand lotion
tissues clean and other wise
a small flash light
keys
nail file
nail clippers
tape measure
bottle with any possible medice we could need in it
an inhalor
pach of gum
empty gum wrappers (I think I need to clean out my purse)
reciepts
pens
check book
and feminine needs products (sorry you asked and we do carry them)

Available on Amazon for the Kindle E-Reader Monster of the North and The Shimmering Mage

Heh, it's early in the morning as I read this, and I swear for a second there it looked like  RedPhantom said that she carried a penis in her bag. I had to do a double take to see in was just pens.

Those other things are called life-savers.

A couple of my co-workers have told me they carry vibrators .

Funny, I was pondering what a sci-fi handbag would be like. Lots of sci-fi outfits and no accessories. My thought is something larger on the inside than the outside, like the Tardis, with an anti-gravity field to compensate for the larger load carried. Since mass is the same, you wouldn't want to be hit by a handbag carrying a couple hundred pounds of do-dads. Maybe it moves along with the owner by itself, so no strap?

hborre ( ) posted Thu, 09 January 2014 at 1:12 PM

My wife carries a handbag that weighs at least 10 lbs.  And like a black hole, it seems to suck things into oblivion.

EClark1894 ( ) posted Thu, 09 January 2014 at 1:52 PM

I've been watching those videos on youtube and I'm reminded of commercials of women doing laundry. They pull things out of their little boys' pants pockets and wonder why they carry all that stuff in them.

I always wanted a Doctor Who pocket in my coat.

Started making this handbag. I've got the basic shape of a Coach style bag. Putting a a few more details and then  I'll refine it.

I wonder though should I model the inside pockets at well?

unbroken-fighter ( ) posted Fri, 10 January 2014 at 4:00 AM

If the bag will open significantly, then there should be something visible inside; but I probably wouldn't bother making the interior very detailed, although you may want to add value if you were selling the bag.

Wow. I wonder how many satellites are visible from inside her bag? :)

EClark1894 ( ) posted Fri, 10 January 2014 at 11:32 AM

Truth is Bob, when I initially started I was just going to make a simple freebie static prop for the native Poser people, but to be honest, this is taking way more effort and time than I originally thought. I may sell the bag and offer content as freebies instead.

hborre ( ) posted Fri, 10 January 2014 at 12:28 PM

Handcuffs.  Mustn't forget the handcuffs.

randym77 ( ) posted Fri, 10 January 2014 at 1:11 PM

I carry a fairly large purse. It's a black cloth bag that looks sort of like a short tote bag. There's a zippered compartment in the center, with snap-shut compartments on either side. Contains keys, phone, a small phone/address book, a large calendar/appointment book, a point-and-shoot camera, a wallet and checkbook, my ID for work, pens, makeup, sunglasses, and, er, "feminine supplies." It's large enough to hold an iPad-style tablet computer, or a small netbook, which I sometimes carry. It's mostly empty, actually. I like having the capacity to stow extras if necessary, like purchases, a full-size DSLR, or my lunch for work.

I'm getting closer to what I want. I was really trying to put together a zippered top that would actually open. I've already modeled the zipper, but I can't quite get it to work just right. Plus I want the inside of the purse to be a different color from the outside so I have to go back and do something about that.

Here's a cross section of the inside with pockets for cellphone, keys, wallet, etc.

Morana ( ) posted Fri, 10 January 2014 at 5:05 PM

I keep my stuff as contained as possible to transfer easily between purses.  So I have a baggie full of lipsticks/balms/etc, a baggie with extra contact lenses/case/solution, a baggie full of assorted medications, and then the wallet, two sunglass cases, little photo books of my dog (I'm that person, yup), pens, scraps of paper (old recipts and grocery lists), dental floss, nail file, and dog poop bags.

It's big enough to stuff in my tablet or Kindle if I want it, as well as for the inevitable "can you put this in your purse for me" from my husband.  Who then complains about how heavy it is if I ask him to hold it for a moment.

But I never put my phone and keys in my purse or I'll never find them. lol

I like organised handbags with lots of compartments both internal and external.

Made of leather. Small pockets must close with zips. Sturdy shoulder strap. I use the same one all the time until it wears out, then I replace it.

It must be able to hold my rather large cellphone, kindle, smaller nylon bag with cosmetics and medication, various usb memory sticks, pocket pack of tissues and comb. Sometimes also a change of underwear and spare pantyhose or kneehighs. Car key. ID book. Bunch of house keys. Bunch of office keys. Wallet with cash and cards. Lots of cards.

No room for any of my husband's stuff.

Nanette, in English that is a bag. A purse is for money only. In my bag is my life. Lose and and I am dead. In my bag I keep my purse, my smokes, tissues, receipts, nasal thing, mobile, cosmetics, keys, change, and if I dare to empty it other things that might be better off in a Hammer horror film...in short your bag sould bulge because they are never large enough :)

Finally finished the zipper for the Coach style bag. In Blender the zipper actually works. in Poser, I suppose it will have to be amorph. Gonna start detailing the bag next.

toastie ( ) posted Mon, 13 January 2014 at 5:47 AM

Nothing. I don't have one. I keep everything I need in my pockets. If it won't fit in my pockets then I don't need it. :)

I think the only time I've ever rendered a bag was a toon with a medical bag.

A quick calculation says a half brick gives the right amount of momentum for whacking heads without adding too much weight.

Current contents of my purse are thusly:

Pocketbook (checkbook with credit cards)
Tube of lip gloss
Lip crayon
Small first aid kit
Travel antibacterial wipes
Travel tissues
Travel tube of naproxen sodium
Small notebook
3 colored gel pens
1 Ticonderoga black pencil
Mini tin of Altoids
Prepaid dumb cellphone
Firesteel pocket knife

Sometimes there is also a small knitting project in there, too.

I've been meaning to make up an altoid tin survival kit, but I just haven't had the time. I'm so unprepared for the Apocalypse.

If I get some time today, I'll snap a picture of my bag and its contents. (No promises. It's my one day off and nobody else in this house folds laundry, so I have kind of a quest ahead of me.)

My old lady is 5 foot & a imaginary 3 inches ,80 pounds soaking wet.

She has a lot of purses & shoes .certain purses goes with certain shoes.

All the purses are very small there's more strap then purse.
I tell her ,there a cig pack with straps.
she crams cigs,smoke,lighter,phone in them.

If I want one thing out of her purse I end up draging everything out.
So I don't bother,she gets it.
