Subject: What should I buy for my poser hobby?

jbearnolimits ( ) posted Tue, 04 March 2014 at 1:52 AM · edited Wed, 05 February 2025 at 6:21 PM

I have the first $20 that I have ever desided to use on poser products. I have poser 6 right now with no more money that the $20 to spend so I don't think I can upgrade. BUT I want to know what everyone here would suggest I get? I was thinking about buying mimic (the cheap one). But anyone else have any ideas?

That depends on what you want to do and what you already have. Are you saying you have never spent anything on Poser since buying the software?

For $15 you can get a one month unlimited download membership from Poser World. For a month you can download their content freely and they have lots.

Alternatively, look in the Deep Freeze section at RuntimeDNA - some real bargains to be had there, quite a few items for $5. Personally I would spend it on plants because I think Poser content is a little lacking in that department, starting with the Wildflower mega-pack for $7 and adding on from there.

But that is what I would do - your needs may differ.

V4.2 Base $29.95

V4.2 Morphs++ $29.95

Michael and his morphs about the same. Way outside the $20 limit. Boy, am I glad I picked up all the Daz base figures up to version 4 when they were free!

Heddheld you are funny! Blender hasn't given me a headache for almost three years.

poser 6 obsolete.  save money until poser 10 goes on sale again.

hborre ( ) posted Tue, 04 March 2014 at 1:24 PM

I would agree with Miss Nancy.  Save the money and upgrade.  Most of the older content is rapidly becoming obsolete and outdated for current Poser versions.  You definitely do not want to become engrained to classic software with inherent bugs and having to relearn Poser once you upgrade.

If you are in the States you can get Poser 9 at Amazon for $44, shipping included.  That at least gets you weight mapping and sub surface scattering.  Poser 10 is $85 and you get gamma correction and subdivision....

If you are on a budget and want to make your money stretch, you might want to look into DAZ Studio, it is free and comes with the genesis figure. So it is already more up to date than picking up V4 with your $20. Instead you could use the money pick up some morphs to add even more versitility to it.

hborre ( ) posted Tue, 04 March 2014 at 3:44 PM

Of course, you will need to learn an entirely different platform, but Rawnrr is correct, DAZ Studio is current and free.

If you still can't make up your mind what to do with the 20 bucks, you can always buy me a rendo store gift certificate! :thumbupboth:

Yeah I know I have been doing more learning and testing things than actually making the art. I guess I should take a time out from learning long enough to just enjoy what I already know.

if you go the free DS route, spend the 20 bucks on Luxus plugin.

there is a beta Eluxir for luxus that reveals the lux nodes in the shade mixer.
