Subject: Gallery Posting Problems

Amarillis ( ) posted Wed, 05 March 2014 at 3:02 PM · edited Thu, 30 January 2025 at 12:02 PM

Im finally going to ask this in hopes that there's a simple solution that Im not figuring out on my own bcause my photoshop knowledge can be a bit limited in some areas.

Ever since I've started posing to the gallery its been like a crapshoot to get the sizing right to post. Sometimes I do and sometimes I dont. I've literally spent hours trying to get some to post and some pieces never do.

I use Photoshop CS2 for postwork now, though I had the same problems when I used to use Elements 7. The Gallery specifications say max 4000x4000 and 512 kb. I've saved it to these specifications exactly, and I've also resized significantly smaller over and over. I've done every variation I can think of trying. Sometimes it wrks and sometimes it doesnt. Is there  a magic way to get this right? What does everyone else do? I've wasted so much time on this last one, I'd really like to post it but I'm about to pull my hair out.

Thanks!

Under files, select "Save for the Web", I believe (or something to that effect).  A new window will open and there you can modify the settings for Web postings.  Since I am not at my own computer ATM, I can't post associated screencaps to help you completely through the process.  Someone else might provide a better and accurate description if I don't post later.

oh my gosh, that makes sense, it might be that simple! Thank you! Going to try it now :)

if ya use wrong "save as" in APS, it adds icon resource and other junk that makes it bigger than ya thought it would be.  anyway, I also used "save for web" and it usually works.

Ok yeah, I might need further instruction on that when anyone is able :(. I am in the save for web area but dont see where I can modify the settings.

Edit: upon further inspection I do see where I can change the size, but its under the specifications for the gallery already, so Im not sure what else I need to do about that.

Man, I feel dense, lol.  Thank you for the advice though, I really appreciate it.

As I mentioned before, I am not currently at my computer so I am going strictly from memory.  On the right side of that window there is an icon which controls the resolution of your image.  Basically it controls quality and sizing.  IIRC opening a separate window from that icon will grant you a selection of transfer rate in kb.  It is here that you can instruct the software to reduce the image to be transmitted @ 512 kb.  Once set, you can save your image for posting.

Again, I can provide screencaps later if needed.

Got it to work! thank you so much! The enlarged size after you click on it still isn't what I would prefer, but maybe I can figure that out.  At least I got it to post! Here's hoping the rest work that easily in the future, as this issue has been the bane of my exsistance.
