I've never heard of the first problem that you described, but as for the second, it sounds like the object was hidden. You could confirm this by looking in the Outliner and checking for the 'eye' or visibility icon. Alt+H will unhide all objects in the scene.
It is better to do one thing well, than to do many things and excel at nothing.

No, that was the first thing i checked out, cause I use it all the time.

I'm doing some modeling on a top for Roxie and there are three objects in the scene. A pair of Boy shorts, the top I'm working on, and Roxie. For some reason when I click on the mouse button, the viewport starts hopping all over the place and a message tells me somethings locked. I try to look it up in the Blender manual, and I manage to clear it. Not quite sure how, though. But now a new problem. Roxie, and the shorts are missing. Accoring to everything I can see, she's still listed in the scene but I can see her or the shorts anywhere. Where the hell did she go?
