Subject: DSON Importer Error Message

ProudApache ( ) posted Wed, 12 March 2014 at 9:38 PM · edited Wed, 05 February 2025 at 5:15 PM

I installed the DSON importer into Poser 2014 and all of the content. I then tried to import Michael 6 into Poser and I got this error message:

The DSON Importer requires a writable runtime folder that is outside of program files.

Add a writeable runtime folder to the library and try again

I'vd tried everything and it doesn't work at all.  What's interesting is that is worked before I had to format my computer and after intalling on the programs, I get that error and I've never seen that before.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Where is your PP2014 Content installed?  Where is Michael 6 installed? If they are anywhere under the c:Program Files hirearchy you need to reinstall the content elsewhere.  The default location is in Shared Documents, IIRC, but it can be anywhere you wish outside of the system protected directories such as c:Program Files or c:windows...

I installed Michael 6 in the normal Runtime folder in the Poser directory.  All my PP2014 is installed in the same runtime.  That's how I've always done it in the past but I know things have changed in the last few years.

If you are using Vista or higher you can't install content in the Runtime in the Poser directory if you have Poser installed in Program Files due to User Account Control; that's why the default is elsewhere.  The only things that should be installed in the Poser program folder are add-ins such as DSON Importer or Python scripts you want to appear on the Scripts menu

I'd copy that runtime folder elsewhere (perhaps 'C:Poser Library') and reinstall Poser, pointing the content installation to the new folder.  You may need to reinstall DSON Importer...

I'll try anything because nothing that I'm doing is working.  I'll keep you updated.  Thanks for your help.

I'm using PP-2014.

The DSN-importer is installed in the runtime that's directly in the PP-2014 folder. Where the python scripts and other programm stuff is installed.

For Genesis I currently have two separate runtimes: One for Genesis 1 and G2F, and one for G2M.

One is located in "My documents" and one is simply on my desktop. You can also use "shared documents" of course.

Thing is, if you have UAC enabled, do not put anything in c:program files except Poser itself. And the DSON importer files.

All genesis base files and all clothing needs to go elsewhere.

I had the same problem, I solved installing the genesis libraries outside of program files (c:/genesis_starter    in my case)

ps.The DSON  neeed  to be  installed in the principal runtime that's the python scripts are  installed.
