Subject: Copying Conform Information to new figure?

dlm4001 ( ) posted Fri, 14 March 2014 at 10:10 PM · edited Sun, 22 September 2024 at 10:56 AM

I have a free figure that I modified (for personal use) in Silo. I created new material groups and UV map.  I can load the obj into Poser (as a prop).  I want to copy the rigging and conforming information and morphs from the original figure.  I can copy the morphs using the PP2014 Copy Morphs feature. I tried using QuickConform using the original figure as the donor and create a new .cr2 file.  but when I load that figure, it is not visible.

I can use the Fitting Room to create a new figure, but the original had skirt handles, and these do not come out right.  Also, the skirt breaks when I bend the thigh, like shorts.

Answers to any of these question is appreciated.

First, Does Quick Conform 3.0 work with PP2014?

Second, Is there another tool or method for copying conforming information from the original figure to the new? (and creating a new .cr2 file?)

Third, is it possible to replace the original figure's OBJ file with the new obj file ( I modified the geometry, and removed some polys.  )

Lastly, In the fitting Room, How do you handle Skirts?

Thanks

The new figure needs to have the same groups as the original figure.

If you've changed the shape of the figure very much then the rig from the original figure won't match the rig for the new figure without adjusting all the JPs.

You could try using the fitting room, but that's really not the best approach for figure creation.

The fitting room is also not good for skirts or robes. It's best use is for tight to moderate fitting clothing. The baggier the clothes get the more work you're going to have to do to fix and adjust things.

I don't know what QuickConform is, so I can't help you with that.

If you want to transfer morphs, then you could try ColorCurvatures Pose Morph Loader (PML). I'm not sure how well it will work for models of different geometry.

In 2014 you can also Copy Morphs From under the Figure menu, but if the geometry is different then you're not going to get very good results without modifying each morph.

Without more detail on what you're trying to do that's all I can suggest.

edTHanks for the information.  After reading it I though I realized that the new figure is not grouped.  QuickConform is a tool (here on rendo) for taking rigging and conforming infomration from a donor figure (clothing or base figure and applying it to the new OBJ file that you are creting new clothing from. I think the figure has to be grouped prior ot using QuickConform.

More specifics on what I am doing.  In general, I have taken a figure that works in Poser, (V4Apron in the freebies section) and editied the geometry in Silo3D,  removing some unwanted detail around the nipples.  I want a smooth front.  I deleted some ploys and smothed the geometry.

What I would like to do is replace the geometry (OBJ file) of the original figure with my updated one. I understand that the UV map amy be messed up by doing this, and I will create a new one in Silo3D.  I used Poser File Editor to change replace the figure geometry in the .cr2 file and that did not work.  (the figure loads from the library, but the focus circle is around an 'invisble' do on the floor...  aka, the geometry did not load.

The obj files imports as a prop just fine.  Material zones work and the normals are right.

I want to copy the rigging and morphs from the original figure to the new one. It uses skirt handles in the rigging and I would like to use those.

So I need a way to copy the rigging (and conforming data) from an original figure to a new one, OR, replace the geometry of the original figure with a modified geometry.

Sounds easy, but, I am stuck.  Qucik Conform 3.0 is supposed to do just that, and I have used it before, but I get a figure that will not load geometry.

I made some progress.  The problem is in the new UV map I was creating.  I took a copy of the original OBJ into Silo3D, added materail zones only and saved it out as is (No poly mods) to a different file name. I used QuickConfrom 3.0 to copy the rigging and conforming information from the original clothing into a new .cr2 file using the new obj mesh.  This creates a new figure and places in the library (great tool).  This new figure loaded from the library, with material zones in tac and rigging that works (confroms).

SO I went back to Solio 3D and removed the unwanted geometry from the the nipple area of the apron, and saved it again (not creating a new UV map).  I used QuickConform to copy the conforming informtion from the original (donar) as before. I loaded it into Poser through the Library Figures and it worked! So I was able to do minor mods without recreating the UV map (which may cause problems but I am not seeing them. I am sure will cause some problems if I create materials with patterns.  But when I assign materials in the material room, all seems to work well.

I guess something I did when I pinned the UV or during that work session fouled up something in the OBJ.  Now all I have left to do is try to copy in some of the V4Morphs++.
