Subject: Unwanted movement during animation

cpt.dallas ( ) posted Sat, 22 March 2014 at 1:52 PM · edited Tue, 31 December 2024 at 4:49 PM

Hi

I am a newbie to Poser and am having problems animating one of the cartoon characters that comes with Poser 10.

At frame 1 the character is stood with his arm up by his face.  I want the characters arm to remain still until frame 60, where I want him to move his arm down to his side.

I have set this animation up, but between frames 1 & 60 the characters arms moves slightly (Twists and bends) even though there are no key frames set to the hand, arm or shoulder during these frames.

I have hit the Edit Keyframes symbol at the botton right corner in the time line area, and checked all the key frames and settings for the arm, shoulder and hand, but the problem persists.

Can anyone help with this issue??

Have you checked all the parameters in the "Graph" window for any unwanted changes?

Just a thought.

Hi geep

Yes, I opened the "Graph" window and found that some of the parameters for the arm, shoulder and hand had *SplineSection * settings on them so I switched them to  Constant Section, which greatly reduced the movement, but didn't eliminate it completely it.  I have checked all the other parameters and can't see anything else to change.

As a test I even selected all the key frames for the character and deleted them, but the slight arm/hand movement continued!!

There is likely some parameter(s) between the collar and the hand which is smoothly splined from frame 1 to 60.  In the keyframe palette, expand the collar, the shoulder, the forearm, and the hand.  Look for boxes keyed in frame 60 which aren't keyed in the "hold salute" frames;  those elements will spline continuously from frame 1 to frame 60.

one method is to set another keyfram wih the same values.

so frame 1 - pose 1

frame    60 - pose 1

frame 90 - pose 2

that ill have the figure hold the pose for 2 secconds (60fps) and then change in one second to pose 2.

You can use spline interpolation for the whole thing but do a break spline at frames 60 and 90 to make the change crisp.

Check the key frames, if there is a problem delete the key frame and then set again.

This is a movie made on that idea some two years  ago I have the movement smoother now as you will see on the other animations.

I must say that Poser and its idiosyncrasies drive me made. You will find one problem after another, but I hate to dump old friends especially when they have been so expensive.

Notice that there are two radio buttons (I have boxed them in sky blue) on the keyframe palette;  you either key only the selected element, or you key all elements of the selected prop/figure.  Be aware of how you have this control set, else you will either key things which you did not want keyed,  or fail to key elements which you *did* want keyed.
