Subject: One way mirror

Hello everyone, if this is very simple soultion i am overlooking forgive me, but i am trying to duplicate a one way mirror, i want to shoot the scene from backside of the mirror and be able to see through it, but have it be a reflective mirror on opposite side. any help would be greatly apprecaited, im using bryce 7.1 and just hobbyist level, but good at following direction.

If you're going to be shooting from the side that's semi-transparent, why would you need a reflective side? Could you please explain further? Is there going to be another mirror in the scene, reflecting the one way mirror? If not, then there's no need for the reflective side.

 

On the other hand, you might want to go to the Bryce forum over at DAZ3D.com. Horo and the other Bryce masters are usually over there. They would be able to give you a hand.

i wanted to try to make two mirrors facing each other and view from behind the mirror, thanks i will check them out

The only thing I can suggest is taking a look at this:

The mirror as I recall was just a rectangle with a reflective surface. However you could duplicate that with reflectivity on one side and transparency on the other, But I think from other discussions I've read, Bryce may not give you the infinite reflections that a real world mirror-facing-mirror gives us.

I don't think that's true... Remember my Doorways render ? Doorways It is infinite... It's a mirror facing mirror trick that I used. Neat, eh?

good one Fran..must have been in my recording period as I totally missed that in 2010

 

Once in a while I look around,
I see a sound
and try to write it down
Sometimes they come out very soft
Tinkling light sound
The Sun comes up again

How big are the mirrors?

if you want to reflect the scene the size of the mirror will reflect how it looks. Here is a Simple idea make a big mirror with either a Cylindrical or Cubic part for the mirror make it like a glass and rack the reflection up to 100% and it will reflect it right back at you. it Depends also on where the mirrors are so it will need plenty of thought this is probably something you should take you time on and look at photo's on google for the general idea(I guess you would type in mirrior reflections or something). If you want to be really good you need to have an idea for the scene you are creating but it always takes time.I will try and upload an image and add it to this forum when I am done with something I am rendering in Bryce at this very moment. Don't ever give up you have a great idea and certainly very unique

Here is an Example.

If you want to do it with just 1 mirror hollow out a cube(using 1 postive Cube and a negative that is a little smaller and they you pull it out just before it comes out entire and then group them together(make Sure they have the same glass and reflectiveness) you can also have it surround the entire scene and make it a glass mirror with 100% Reflectiveness. You can also use multiple cylinders or cubes to do this as well here are the examples they are not brilliant just an example. this is the mesh view

Nice one ThunderStone.  As you can see the default number of bounces on a reflection is 6 (see the black plane marking the 6th reflection in TS's doors render).  This number can be increased within the render options menu.  

Simply put the camera in front of the first mirror instead of behind it.  The camera is invisible in the scene.  If you are wanting to have some scenery behind the first mirror, why not render a separate scene and mask out the mirror portion there and layer it in post work.

sounds like a lot of bounces on the raytrace

I only have three here, but if you increase the raytrace, the bounces increase.

as opposed to this with no raytrace.

 

Both images modeled and rendered in bryce.  Was from about 2002 ish.
