The Wisdom of bagginsbill:
"Oh - the manual says that? I have never read the manual - this must be why."Reality does a very good job of converting materials from Poser to Lux, and has a very easy to use interface. To get the best results possible you will typically need to do some editing of the materials in Reality, but it really depends on the individual user.
It's also much easier to make minor adjustments to poses, etc. using Reality since everything done in Poser is automatically updated in Reality, ready to send to Lux (using Blender you would need to make the adjustment, export, import, and make/fix shaders for every adjustment). But using Blender you also have access to Cycles, which is faster than Lux.
For integration with Poser and ease of use, Reality would definitely get my vote (I'm glad I bought it). But the export to Blender option is free, and you will begin learing Blender which could be very handy as well. So it depends on your own personal peferences and budget.

The issue for me is not does Reality work... it does. Well. I don't use it, but know a couple of folks who do and they love it.
My issue is, Luxrender takes a L-O-N-G time to do anything. It is not a good choice if throughput is a concern... i.e. a production oriented environment. I also tried Octane and came to similar conclusions.
Another item... if you use the advanced shader options in Poser, then you are wasting your time. Those advanced options relate only to Firefly. If you want to use an external renderer, you need to build shaders with an eye to what those environments are looking for... Again... I'm told Reality really shines there.
I really like Reality. It's possible to get decent renders right out of the box with it, though getting good renders will take time to manipulate the materials. But knowing you're setting up the scene for Reality means not having to muck about with optimizing material settings for rendering in Poser.
Rendering time is definitely slow, but it doesn't matter to me since my work is just for myself anyway. Whether I let a render run for 8 hours or 32 doesn't matter. And once Lux is running, you can close Poser or move onto a different project. You can also stop and restart the Lux file anytime you want. The image keeps refining as long as you let Lux run.
And I find lighting is much easier to set up in Reality than it is for rendering in Poser.

I have Vray as an alternate second render engine in Maxon Cinema4D it is one of the best high quality production render engines available but there is no Direct support for poser formats as Vray needs to use Vray Materials.
Since I have the interposer pro plugin
I can Load native poser files and content into C4D for rendering but for poser content I need to Run Vray's "Material Converter" option before sending My poser content to the Vray Engine.
This Material Conversion only supports Image based poser textures NONE of the node based stuff and even then the converted results are often unsatisfactory and require alot of tweeking in the Vray Material system.
It is because of this that I have decided to use Vray only for NON poser content projects
and render my poser content using Cinema4D's Excellent&fast native AR4 GI rendering engine that require no adjustment of poser materials.

I have been thnking of getting Reality 3.I have a friend who imports Poser figures into Blender, in effect is using LUX.
I wonder if this is the way to go, or; am I just denying Reality?
It is evident that the answer lies in how effective the import of these figures is in Blender. Something that only the experienced can answer.
Can some one help?
Thanks,
