Youtube works fine for me. You might want to try running malware bytes. Sounds like something is redirecting your browser so you could have a virus. mwb will get rid of it.

Quote - ya click on a link and

Before clicking any link I look where the link is pointing. If in the text reads something like "click here: www.something.com/restparts etc..." and hovering the cursor on link without clicking shows www.somethingelse.something... then I would not click. Or where the problem appears, on Google sites?

I think running a malware program is a good idea.

If you're running Windows, you might want to check your HOSTS file in WindowsSystem32Driversetc

At one point I was having some funny stuff going on, ended up I got re-direct IP's injected into my HOST file for google analytics. Any page that had them on it would load then redirect after a few seconds.   I just had to remove the re-direct lines & resave it. Don't know how it injected to it, I had the properties set on it so even I can't make changes to it without adjusting the properties.

The syndication link makes me suspect that they're trying to spy on you and something on your computer (probably a plugin) is trying to stop that.  In a nutshell, they can't track you therefore it fails.  Adobe Flash Player is officially listed as spyware so I personally will not use it.

To deal with this you can add a plugin to FireFox called "YouTube Flash to HTML5".  You can disable the Flash Player Plugin altogether when you have this installed.  It helps you view YouTube without ads, tracking, and other malicious crap.

If you use the plugin, it converts YouTube on the fly, and on my system, it works flawlessly.  I think it's probably the same sort of thing that Apple users have so that they can see YouTube without Flash.  The plugin has never failed to play a YouTube video for me, and I've never seen an ad since I started using it.

So in a nutshell, it's pretty damn awesome 😄

And if you wear the special tin foil helmet you can see all the big sites are watching you:) Seriously though like the post above suggest run a malware scan, malwarebytes free edition is pretty good, and like Taren421 suggests fix your hosts file. HostsMan is a great free tool for the latter, plus it also allows you to block known malware sites and also block advertising, even stops google adwords. (link above) If you use firefox, try these plugins...NoScript for controlling scripts, Adblockplus (tick the whitelist option to disable the opt-in advertising) for further ad-blocking and DoNotTrackMe to reduce tracking.

Unfortunately, yes, but it's easy enough to keep the Adobe Spyware under control:

You need two plugins for your FireFox:

  • Flashblock
  • YouTube Flash to HTML5

Flashblock - is designed to stop Flash Player activating wherever it comes across Flash on a webpage.  It does this by replacing any Flash it finds, with a play button.  Unless you press that play button, Flash has not been activated and therefore it hasn't told Adobe what website you are on and what you watched or used there (which is cool because it none of their business).  If you press play, then it will allow Adobe Flash to run, and Adobe to spy on you as usual.

YouTube Flash to HTML5 - is designed to allow you to play YouTube videos without activating Flash at all.  So, if you have both of these installed, this is what happens:

  • You get to decide whether you want to let Adobe spy on you.
  • You get to watch YouTube without Flash tracking and ads.

The really cool thing is that Flashblock doesn't even get the need to activate on YouTube because YouTube Flash to HTML5 automatically detects the YouTube Flash first, and plays it as HTML5 instead.

That's the way I currently deal with Adobe spyware.

Scott, I tried following those instructions, but step 2 leaves a huge knowledge blank between "open registry editor" and "remove all {googsynd} associated keys.

How do I find and identify googsynd associated keys?

*How do I find and identify googsynd associated keys?* Try link above for tips. Also BEFORE editing it, download and run CCleaner. This free system cleaner will not only clean out a few more bugs but also allow you to BACKUP the registry. Better safe than sorry :) Oh and don't forget to scan your system with malwarebytes free edition as well.

I've got the regedit and the search box open, but what term/name do I search for?  Or alternatively, how do I recognize a googsynd key when I see it?  Would they be labeled as such in the right-hand window?

I looked in the folders shown on that web page, and all I've got is what's in the attached pic.  Nothing eye catching in the right hand window for any of those subfolders.

PS  I run CrapCleaner regularly.  I have the paid versions of MalwareBytes and Avast!
