Subject: HELP!

Wow.....I am as lost as.......

well....lost is an understatement.

Just got Poser 2014 from the store here....took me all freaking evening and most of the night to DL and install it. I will never purchase a downloadable app ever again!

Now installed and launched i can not figure out what the heck to do with the interface. Is there any way I can set up the look and tool set to look more like Poser 7? I have no idea how it works. I click on a tool bar and it turns blue and disappears. I launch it and can't get the tools to come into the screen with out them moving where they seem to want to be.  try to drag tools from background window to the stage screen and the stage screen disappears.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

After 8 hours trying to figure out the works of Poser 2014, launching messing and closing to relaunch it. I think I wanna go back to poser7!  :(

Hmmm...are you windows or mac? Probably the newest thing for you will be all the panels are moveable and dockable or un-dockable. In each window/panel you will see a little tiny square in the right hand corner, click that and you will see your options, then you can grab the panel and move it!

mac.what will they dock to?

i am on a 15 inch laptop and all the tool boxes are huge and the render/set up stage looks smaller than what i've been working with. can that be fixed too?

The only difference is that instead of floating elements, as in Poser 7, the elements dock to one another (for the most part).  The same widgets are still there.  I'd screenshot your old Poser 7 setup and do your best to just set up the 2014 UI like that.

To move things around, go near the top of a widget and in most cases, the icon turns to a hand.  Click (keep it down) and drag and you'll get a blue shaded box.  As you move over other things the blue shaded box should appear.  Where you release that item will be placed there and docked in that position (snapping next to other items).

If you click the little box in the upper right corner, you can make it "lock" by un-ticking Drag-Dock Enabled.

Does that help?

Online Now!

Otherwise, go into General Preference and reset Poser to factory default.

Real estate is going to be limited on a 15" screen. I assume you've got the screen resolution to maximum.

You'll need to decide which windows you need permanently, occasionally or not at all. I never use animation, preview or memery dots, occasionally morph, heirachay and joint.

All my windows are floating with docking turned off. Turn off all but permanent then set all your permanent windows to choice. Turn on each occasional window in turn, move and size it, turn it off and repeat. They can jump behind another window so off/on brings them back to the front. If you leave them with a corner in free space they can be jumped forward.

Bad news is you'll need to do it for the material room and setup room etc. Don't forget to go Edit/General Prefs/Interface to set Launch to Previous State. As hborre says you can always reset to factory default if you get in tangle

@ Shante: Are you familiar with SmithMicro's YouTube channel?

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLynyD-7entJ0exWVVKLZLvUYmMFLr6lOy

It covers a ton of valuable info on Poser 10 and 2014, as well as 9 and 2012.

I also went from Poser 7 to PP2012 (which looks virtually identical to 2014) and innitially was rather lost. So that channel helped tremendously in getting familiar with the new UI and everything the new Poser offers. It really isn't much different than the old UI, it just looks a lot different - much better IMO. Now it's a bit daunting for me when I go back to P7 cause everything feels so squished up there.

I'm a PC user tho, not a mac, so I can't be much help in that regard. I used to have a macbook, but never used Poser on it, and it burned up a couple years ago.
