Subject: Poser Pro 2014 - Where's The Manual? Why Does The Fitting Room Crash On Opening?

3dcheapskate ( ) posted Tue, 24 June 2014 at 10:17 PM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 10:03 AM

I've just 'gone pro' and downloaded and installed Poser Pro 2014. I've got both the 32bit and 64bit versions.

First query - where's the documentation? I've searched the installation and only found  three PDFs - freeimage-license.pdf, PoseWriter Panel GUIDE.pdf, and XLC.pdf. I can't find a 'Download User Manual' link on the SM site either.

Second (and more important) - why does Poser crash if I click on the 'Fitting Room' tab? So far all I've done is open Poser (so Andy's loaded by default) and click each room tab in turn.

TIA

Pete

(P.S. I haven't got my SM support login info with me so I can't ask them at the moment)

For the manual, use the Help menu.

If that doesn't work then the installation is not complete.

Cheers.

Oh yes, forgot to specify the SR? It's up to date - 10.0.3.26510 (Just downloaded it yesterday using the SMK DLM, which (should) automagically download the latest version...)

And yes, Help > Poser Reference Manual found it for me (I should have thought to look for the user manual in the content installation as well as the application installation... ;o)

Hmmm... it seems like it's only the 64 bit version that's crashing when I enter the room.

With the 32 bit version I get the 'Fitting Sessions' pane and can start a new session, but if I cancel that then Poser seems to be completely locked up.

Edit: by 'completely locked up' I mean that it won't respond to me clicking on other room tabs, so I can't go back to the pose room. But the highlighting of the room name tabs changes as I mouse over them.

I'm running 2014 64-bit on Win7 and I don't have the problems with the fitting room that you're having. I don't have the 32-bit version installed.

What do you have in your scene when you try to enter the fitting room?

Currently it's just the default factory scene with Andy. I haven't tried anything else yet.

(Just tried deleting Andy, loading James, loading his conforming jacket prop, conforming that, and then entering the fitting room - crash!)

The 32-bit version is installed by default under 64-bit OS, you must unselect that option during installation.

It didn't seem to be an either/or during installation. I left the 32 bit checkbox checked, and I seem to have both the 64bit and 32 bit versions installed and working (except for this Fitting Room issue).

Further to that question, I just checked the user manual and read where it says "Before you enter the Fitting Room, you need to load the character and the clothing that you want to refit into your scene." So I'm now using Jessi (zeroed) and James' jacket before entering the Fitting Room.

Still the same problems.

64bit PP2014 - crashes on entering the Fitting room

32bit PP2014 - lets me enter the Fitting room. I click 'New' to start a new fitting session. Then I just click 'Cancel'. Although the room names are highlighted when I hover over them, clicking does nothing.

Is your content library installed in Documents? Win7 has security crap that makes the runtime necessary to be in documents instead of program files. That shouldn't really have anything to do with this issue though.

Maybe it's a memory issue.

You could try deleting your prefrences and restarting Poser.

Or you could try uninstalling both versions (32 and 64) and re-install just one or the other.

Those would be the steps I would take. I've never had problems with Poser 2014 64-bit crashing repeatedly. It has crashed on occasion but I can do most of my work without worry.

Maybe someone else will come along with better suggestions. Might want to file a support ticket with SM if none of these suggestions work.

3dcheapskate ( ) posted Wed, 25 June 2014 at 3:29 AM · edited Wed, 25 June 2014 at 3:31 AM

Thanks for the suggestions.

  • I have a separate hard disk partition for my runtimes.

  • It shouldn't be a memory/system spec issue - I have 4GB RAM, quad core i5 2.3GHz, intel HD + nVidia GeForce 525M, and I've just double-checked against the PP2014 sys req.

  • Deleting preferences should be an easy thing to try. Reinstalling is always an option, but I want to exhaust other options first!

P.S. I just noticed on the screenshot I posted that the preview pane doesn't look right. When you go into the Fitting Room what do you normally see there? That brings to mind the IE10/11 - Adobe Flash issue that caused the Poser Library pane to screw up. maybe it's an IE/Flash issue again?

I'll be contacting SM support when I get back home and find my login info - assuming the problem's still unresolved.

Ha! Found it!

PoserPro was using the integrated Intel graphics.

I've corrected it to use the nVidia, and that seems to have resolved the problem - both 32bit and 64bit versions now seem to be working fine (fingers crossed).

(I had another old thread about this - Using nVidia GeForce GT525M (in Dell Inspiron 15 N5110) for Blender/Poser/DAZ St - I'd assumed PoserPro would automatically use the nVidia like all my other Poser versions, but it has a different .exe name, so it doesn't use the same setting)

I see your last post found the problem, but I was going to mention and still will for general future use that:

When Poser insta-crashes somewhere, it is almost always related to the video driver involved in the preview window.

Usually this is confirmed (but not necessarily resolved) by switching to SreeD (software only preview) which, if it no longer crashes, demonstrates that Poser is able to do whatever it is that usually crashes, and the problem has to do with hardware-assist and video display drivers.
